The Hindi remake of "Drishyam" has been making news for quite some time. The latest news in the industry is that the role of Georgekutty, which was played by Mohanlal in Malayalam, will be reprised by Ajay Devgn in the Hindi version. The news was confirmed by Jeethu Joseph, who is the director of the Malayalam and Tamil versions.
Jeethu also added that the Hindi version will have a few changes, keeping in mind the taste of Bollywood audience. The Malayalam version had the protagonist's daughter as a molestation victim, but the Hindi remake will most likely have the hero's sister character as the victim.
The director is currently busy with the Tamil remake, "Papanasam", which stars Kamal Haasan in the lead.
In the Malayalam version, the lead character belongs to the Syrian Christian community, whereas in the Tamil remake, the protagonist will play a Hindu Nadar. All other aspects of the remake are similar to the original.
"The remake experience was slightly boring at times, especially as the sequences and scenes were repeated," Jeethu Joesph told Manorama Online. "The most exciting part was being able to experience how two leading actors portrayed the same role in different styles that were unique to them."
"When Mohanlal excelled in controlled acting, keeping in check emotions, Kamal Haasan delved deep when it came to expressing emotions, and with all the melodrama that Tamil cinema calls for. They took Georgekutty through different planes and levels of acting," he added.
The director is planning to release "Papanasam" by July 2015. The shooting of his next Malayalam venture, "Life of Josutty", starring Dileep, is expected to kick-start by December.
Jeethu also added that he was also invited to do the Hindi remake of the film, but his busy schedule did not allow him to go ahead with the Bollywood plans.
Earlier it was reported that Saif Ali Khan had bagged the lead role, but the latest confirmation from Jeethu dismissed all speculations. The rights of Hindi version are bought by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures.
