Box Office Collection: 'Action Jackson' Dull; Can Aamir Khan's 'PK' Surpass ₹200 Crore by this Year End?

Aamir Khan's "PK" has opened well at the Indian box office, with the film raking in more than ₹50 crore in two days. It is likely to end the opening weekend by minting around ₹90 crore in India.

The film is expected to cross the ₹100-crore club by Monday (22 December) and beat "Kick," which achieved the feat in five days.

While the Aamir starrer will easily surpass ₹100 crore, the question will now be whether it enters the  ₹200-crore club. So far, six Bollywood films have entered the ₹200-crore club, including Aamir's "Dhoom 3." All eyes will be focused on "PK" to find out if it crosses the ₹200-crore mark in India box office collections. 

Trade experts seem confident that the film will enter the ₹200-crore club, but it needs to be seen if the Aamir starrer will be able to breach the mark by this year end. If it does, "PK" will beat "Chennai Express," which achieved the feat in 15 days.

There are possibilities that the comedy drama film might even beat "Kick," "Krrish 3" and "Dhoom 3," which minted over ₹200 crore in 11, 10 and nine days respectively.

Ajay Devgn starrer "Action Jackson" has failed to pick up in its second week and its performance has remained dull at the box office. The film minted ₹2.65 crore in four days (15-18 December) and its two-week collections amout to ₹55.25 crore, reported Koimoi.

"Action Jackson" carried big buzz prior to its release, but its performance has dipped after the first day as a result of average reviews. The Devgn starrer was doing poorly in multiplexes, though its performance in single screens was decent. With the release of Aamir Khan's "PK," "Action Jackson" is likely to witness further drop in collections and might end its business soon.

'Action Jackson' Box Office Collection: Ajay Starrer has Low 1st Week; Rajinikanth's 'Lingaa' to Affect in 2nd Week

Ajay Devgn's "Action Jackson" has finished the first week run on a very low note and looks like the film won't have a good run in its second week either due to the release of "Lingaa".

The film directed by Prabhu Deva had a dull opening and the box office earning continued to remain on the lower side in its first week.

Generally, Prabhu Deva's directorial film fetches decent amount or grosses at least ₹50 crore in its first week, but surprisingly, "Action Jackson" has failed to cross even the ₹50 crore mark in its first week. Compared to Ajay's last film "Singham Returns", the business of "Action Jackson" is below average.

Some movies receive negative critics review, but work well at the box office only because the audience likes it. However, in this case, critics as well as audience trashed the movie, which affected its box office run especially during the weekdays.

"It earned Rs.19 crore in two days. It was made on a budget of about Rs.75 crore and considering that, the film should've done better. Those who like Prabhudheva kind of films have mostly gone for it, but not everyone," Rajesh Thadani of Multimedia Combines told IANS.

Meanwhile, the box office collection of the film would drop further in its second week due to the release of superstar Rajinikanth's film "Lingaa".

"Lingaa" is a Tamil action thriller directed by K. S. Ravikumar and featuring Rajinikanth, Anushka Shetty and Sonakshi Sinha in lead roles.

Although, "Lingaa" is a Tamil film, its release would affect the box office run of "Action Jackson". "Lingaa" has been released in good number of screens in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Pune and other major cities, apart from South circuits.

"Lingaa" is dominating the market not just in south India but has also taken over the market in North circuits. Bollywood films rake in maximum amount from Mumbai and National Capital Region, but this time it's "Lingaa" which has more screen count than "Action Jackson" in those two circuits.

Meanwhile, it will be difficult for the makers of "Action Jackson" to earn the production cost from domestic run as the collection is not up to the mark.

'Action Jackson' Box Office Collection: Ajay Starrer Holds Well on Monday; Overseas Figures Disappoint

Ajay Devgn's "Action Jackson" surprisingly held well on the first Monday in India. The action romantic film witnessed usual Monday drop, but the fall was not drastic to affect the business.

The Prabhu Deva directorial minted ₹5.25 crore on Monday, taking its four day total to ₹34.7 crore, according to Bollywood Hungama. On Friday the film minted ₹10.25 crore, Satruday ₹8 crore and on Sunday it minted ₹11 crore.

The drop on Monday was only 50% compared to the opening day. But the overall business of the film is low due to the below average opening weekend collection.

The film has done average business from Mumbai, Rajasthan, CP Berar, CI and Bihar circuits, but suffered in North circuits, especially in Lucknow and Kanpur.

If it maintains the same pace at the box office, the first week collection would come to approximately ₹45 crore. And with no major release this week, "Action Jackson" has good chances of faring well at collection centers.

Whether it will earn the production cost from the domestic run or not remains a question. Even trade analysts are worried about the fate of the film at collection centers.

"Considering the budget, the movie should've got a jump of minimum Rs.15 crore or Rs.20 crore, but that didn't happen. It earned only Rs.28 crore in three days. It might not sustain for long,"  IANS quoted Rajesh Thadani of Multimedia Combines as saying.

Meanwhile, the film opened on a dull note at the overseas box office as well. In its opening weekend, Ajay starrer minted only 7.41 crore (USD 1.2 million) from international markets.

The film fared well only in the UAE-GCC circuit, while the collection from rest of the circuits was below the mark.

UAE-GCC: ₹3.02 crore (AED 18,00,000)

UK-Ireland: ₹49.95 lakh (£ 51,836)

Australia: ₹22.92 lakh (A$ 44,617)

New Zealand: ₹8.26 lakh (NZ$ 17,461)

Malaysia: ₹3.59 lakh (MYR 20,292).

The box office collection of Ajay Devgn's "Action Jackson" showed slight growth on Sunday, but failed to cross the ₹50 crore mark.

The opening weekend box office collection of action comedy film "Action Jackson" stands at ₹29.5 crore. On opening day, the film minted ₹10.25 crore from domestic box office and on second day the collection declined by approximately 25%.

"Action Jackson" minted ₹8 crore on Saturday, but the film picked up its pace again on Sunday and raked in ₹11 crore, according to Bollywood Hungama.

Prabhu Deva's directorial film has been getting negative publicity after the release. Critics have thrashed the movie and so have the audiences. Due to the negative buzz, the film even failed to cross the ₹50 crore mark in its opening weekend.

Trade analysts have predicted that the sustainability of the film at the box office during the weekdays is uncertain.

"Considering the budget, the movie should've got a jump of minimum Rs.15 crore or Rs.20 crore, but that didn't happen. It earned only Rs.28 crore in three days. It might not sustain for long," IANS quoted Rajesh Thadani of Multimedia Combines as saying.

The film is made on a budget of ₹75 crore and looking at the opening weekend collection, it will be difficult for the film to rake the production cost from its domestic box office run.

"Action Jackson" will have to maintain a steady pace over the weekdays to at least earn the production cost.

Meanwhile, "Action Jackson" opening weekend total is one of the lowest this year for films starring Bollywood A-listers. Saif Ali Khan's "Humshakals", which was also critcised by critics, fared in ₹40 crore in its debut week.

Though "Ek Villain" and "Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania" stars actors who are just three films old, it managed to make more money at the box office than Ajay's "Action Jackson".

Ajay Devgn might have been upset with the critics panning his Action Jackson avatar, but the actor who will not have any release in 2015 is concentrating on his directorial venture- Shivaay. 

Sporting a different look - one with a growing stubble, when Ajay was quizzed about it, he maintained his silence but gave out something on his next film. Although he clarified that it is just because of his laziness he's not been able to shave. But he aslo added that Shivay has been in the pipeline for sometime and now that Ajay has taken a year off from acting, he only wants to concentrate on Shivaay.

He also added that he is working on a particular look for the film and also promised to have a new look, new appearance in the film. The film will go on floors in February next year and will have a new girl playing the lead alongside Ajay.

Box Office Collection: Action Jackson Fails to Enter list of top 10 Biggest Openers of 2014

Ajay Devgn's latest outing "Action Jackson", which collected ₹9.25 crores at the Indian box office on the first day, has failed to make it to the list of top 10 biggest Bollywood openers of 2014. the film has landed in the 12th spot in the list.

"Action Jackson" is one of the most-talked about and highly-awaited movies of 2014. The film has been creating positive buzz, ever since director Prabhu Deva announced it. Before its release, the promos and music of the film had soared up viewers' curiosity and expectations sky high. In addition, the makers had massive publicity for it and Ajay and Sonakshi have promoted it on several popular TV shows.

All these factors had been successful in fetching a decent amount of advance ticket booking for "Action Jackson", which released in around 3500 screens in the domestic market on 5 November. The film registered an average of 50% occupancy in multiplexes and 65% of footfalls in the single screens in the morning show on its opening day. This response did not match with the trade experts predictions.

"Action Jackson" had garnered a negative word of mouth in the paid previews in the domestic market and this bad response took a toll on its business in the morning show on Friday. The movie was expected to show a big leap in the later shows. It did have growth, but not upto the expected level. The film ended up collecting ₹9.25 crore nett at the Indian box office on the first day.

The opening day collection of "Action Jackson" is not even 35% of the business of Ajay's last release "Singham Returns". Its business is much lower than that of big flop movies such as "Himmatwala" (₹12 crore), "Humshakals" (₹12.50 crore) and "Entertainment" (₹11.16).

'Action Jackson' Box Office Collection: Ajay Devgn's Film Loses to Mahesh Babu's "Dookudu" on First Day

Ajay Devgn's "Action Jackson" has failed to beat the opening day collections of Mahesh Babu's "Dookudu", the original version, though the box office collection was otherwise decent.

"Action Jackson" earned ₹9.25 crores on the release day, whereas the Telugu movie had earned ₹10.01 crores on the first day. This could be surprising news for traders simply because the regional film has outperformed a mainstream Bollywood film.

While "Dookudu" had released in about 800 screens in India, "Action Jackson" has been released in 3500 screens. Yet, Ajay Devgn's flick could not beat the Telugu film. Early response from overseas centres is no different, where it is being said to be just average for the Prabhu Deva- directed movie.

"Action Jackson" was supposed to perform better, given the promotions done by the film unit. The team had travelled to key centres to draw the audience's attention. The early prediction was that the Bollywood flick could make ₹12 crores. But the film has performed below expectations to earn less than 10 crores on the first day.

Mahesh Babu's "Dookudu" was one of the biggest hits of 2011. Indeed, the Telugu movie had broken several records at the box office and had become all time highest grosser of the Tollywood industry. The Telugu version was directed by Srinu Vaitla and featured Samantha in the female lead role.

Traders were expecting Ajay Devgn's "Action Jackson" to do a similar magic. However, the Bollywood flick has underperformed, though the collections are expected to improve on Saturday and Sunday.

"Action Jackson" hasn't got good response from critics and now banks solely on the good word-of-mouth spread by Ajaj Devgn's and Sonakshi Sinha's fans.

Trader are now looking forward to see whether "Action Jackson" beats the first weekend records of "Dookudu".

Ajay Devgn's "Action Jackson" has raked in below the expected amount on opening day at the domestic box office.

The action thriller was expected to earn more than ₹12 crore, but the opening day collection stands at just ₹9.25 crore, according to Bollywood Hungama. Considering Ajay's last release "Singham Returns"  opening day box office collection, "Action Jackson" has opened way below the mark. 

Trade analysts and exhibitors were expecting that after a dull November, "Action Jackson" would have a great opening. Exhibitors said that despite releasing on a non-holiday Friday, the film will rake in gigantic numbers.

"Ajay Devgn and Prabhu Dheva have come together for the first time and everyone is looking forward to seeing the new action created by both of them. This film will undoubtedly ring in gigantic numbers inspite of releasing on a non-holiday," Indiaglitz quoted exhibitor Amar Laykar, PVR Cinemax, as saying.

"The last few months were quite dull, which is why everyone has high hopes from Action Jackson. Also, being a solo release, we will run maximum shows. The outstanding response to the advance booking suggests that we will sell out the weekend shows by this evening."

But "Action Jackson" failed to live up to the expectation. The opening day box office income is less than ₹10 crore. Prabhu Deva's directorial film's first day total is less than that of his last film "R... Rajkumar" starring Shahid Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha. "R... Rajkumar" minted ₹10.2 crore on day one at domestic box office.

"Action Jackson" had a decent occupancy in the morning shows, but the negative reviews hampered the evening and night shows occupancy. The film, as expected, opened well at single screens, but low income from multiplexes affected the overall day one collection.

The action thriller will have to show a good jump in its business over the weekend to end the first week on a good note.

"Action Jackson" released on Friday in more than 3500 screens worldwide. The film also features Sonakshi Sinha and Yami Gautam in lead roles and Kunal Roy Kapur, Anandraj and Manasvi Mamgai in supporting roles.

'Action Jackson' Movie Review: It's a Bad, Bad Dream

First things first, a 2-minute silence for the ₹200 spent at the ticket window.

With a plot thinner than a size-zero waist, a narrative as fractured as broken vase, and acting as dismal as out-of-work actors, "Action Jackson" is what you'd recommend to that sly friend from school, who made you believe that he/she wasn't prepared for a test but would eventually clear it with the highest score.

Vishy (Ajay Devgn), a goon with a good heart, beats up people and tries underthings on at retail stores. Which brings to the question: What if it doesn't fit him well and he decides to not to purchase it? Best wishes to the man in line.

Khushi (Sonakshi Sinha), a clumsy girl, chases Vishy only to watch him naked. She strongly believes a look at his equipment will alter her luck. So, if this isn't enough to wrench one's gut, what is?

Marina (Manasvi Mamgai), a nut case of a woman and a female version of Salman Khan never missing an opportunity to go shirtless.

Yami Gautam and Kunal Roy Kapoor's performances -- only add to the run-time and not storyline -- are lost in the chaos stirred up by the film's central characters.

The script, if there were any, could've been analysed but what's been delivered is nothing but a distasteful pastiche of Prabhu Deva's directorials. It's almost like take handful of cringe-worthy dialogues of "Wanted" (2009), add to it generous amount of quirk from "Rowdy Rathore" (2012), top it off with some bone-breaking "R...Rajkumar" (2013) dance moves – and there, the mindless entertainer is served.

Himesh Reshammiya, who was entrusted with the job of creating foot-tapping numbers for "AJ", was either drugged while working at it or he desperately wanted the tunes of his debut film "Xpose" to sound like a Mozart classic after listening to "Tujhse Milne Ka Keeda Andar Hai".

In a nutshell, "AJ" is a bad, bad dream. And it does stand true to its oft repeated dialogue - 'Na commitment, na appointment, only punishment.' The mindless action comes without an 'appointment' and only gives you truck loads of 'punishment'.

Sometimes it looks like we have gone back to the era when Ajay Devgn just stepped into the industry while his action created a mass appeal. And now when we have him here, there doesn’t seem too much of difference however, this time we aren’t influenced in that way.

Director Prabhudeva has his style of directing action movies ever since Wanted and here too he maintains it with Action Jackson. He doesn’t rely much on the technicalities of picturisation and shows least sympathy to the story which needed lots of improvement.

The movie opens with Rishi (Ajay Devgn) leading a simple life working in a hotel and alongside he does a social service by helping people. He takes a leave from his work and comes to Mumbai. There he has a pal (Kunaal Roy Kapur) who has no work except to get slapped by any second person. Rishi’s another side is shown here as he plays a smart goon who beats up the baddies for some money. Sooner his route is crossed by a girl (Sonakshi Sinha) who is struggling with her misfortune. But as soon as she meets Rishi, good things happen. She follows him considering him as her lucky mascot. Unsurprisingly, the two fall in love with eachother and decides to marry.

But amidst all this, Rishi is followed by the Mumbai Police and an international criminal. What’s the mystery behind all this? Is there more to Rishi’s goon occupation? To solve this puzzle watch out for this film however, you won’t be fascinated by it.

There is couple of mysteries and surprises which is opened layer by layer, one by one. They work for a moment but don’t leave a desirable impact. More because the movie is presented in a format we saw in the 80’s when ‘Lion and Mona’ were entertaining.

But after so many years, it’s hard to digest such sort of treatment to the villains of the present era. A bald-headed Don with one devilish eye and his sister (Manasvi Mamgai) with a cat-like haunting background score is the most funniest of sorts one could think for the male villain and the vamp.

The romance between and Ajay and Sonakshi is something with which we have crossed two years watching in Rowdy Rathore and R..Rajkumar.  The simple reason being is the actress and her style which are common and unfortunately annoyingly repetitive.

The movie however is supported by few action and intense scenes one of which include Yami Gautam being beaten up by the goons watching which one could easily and instantly recall Aamir Khan starrer ‘Ghajini’ where Asin is brutally manhandled.

Such scene leaves us with a sense of rage and sorrow. Moreover, the action department is something which provides us relief but in fewer occasion. There are lots of blood sheds, slaughtering with the swords particularly during the post and pre interval minutes. But by the time the movie ends, the quality of these action sequences lowers and hardly are we thrilled by them.

Had it not been Ajay Devgn, those combative scenes would have faded. If you are entering into theatres keep one thing in mind. It’s Ajay Devgn and just Devgn.

Sonakshi Sinha is repetitive but that’s what the Prabhudeva’s stories have always demanded from her. Yami Gautam plays Ajay’s muse efficiently however, there isn’t much scope for her.

Kunaal Roy Kapur as Ajay’s best friend is good. There is always one in Deva’s flick who is there to give a comic relief and Kunaal plays that part well.

Manasvi Mamgai has caliber to perform and with her debut act she shows it but mostly is turned down by her bad characterization.

Music by Himesh Reshamiya is good but the songs only interrupt the flow of the movie while none of them is remembered.

I’ll go with two and a half stars for Action Jackson. Watch it only if you are a die hard Ajay Devgn fan.

Director Prabhu Deva's Bollywood film "Action Jackson" is one of the most hyped movies of 2014 and it has made it to the headlines several times for all good reasons. But released in theatres on 5 November, the film has garnered negative reviewers from the viewers.

Written by AC Mughil and Prabhu Deva, "Action Jackson" is an action comedy film starring Ajay Devgn and Sonakshi Sinha, Yami Gautam and Manasvi Mamgai in the lead roles. The story of the movie is about a small-time crook. What happens when he falls in love with a relentless girl will form the hilarious comedy. The movie is loaded with all mass and class elements.

But the movie buffs, who watched "Action Jackson" in the paid preview shows, are not impressed with the film. Many say that this movie is worse than the worst movies of the year – "Humshakals" and "Super Nani". Some viewers took to Twitter to blast the makers of the film.
