Salman Khan's "Kick" will remain at the top in the box office collection chart, followed by Ajay Devgn's "Singham Returns" at second spot.
When "Singham Returns" released on 15 August, it threatened to break "Kick" box office record. It managed to beat the opening day collection record of "Kick", but after that "Singham Returns" failed to maintain that same buzz.
After "Kick", "Singham Returns" was the next big movie, starring Devgn and Kareena Kapoor Khan in the lead. The film was one of the most awaited as it was directed by Rohit Shetty.
On day one, the film minted ₹32.09 crore, becoming the highest opener of 2014 and during weekend it fetched in ₹77.69 crore.
The film managed to reach the ₹100 crore club within five days – just like "Kick"- but its earnings declined in second week.
And going by the two week trend, Rohit Shetty's directorial film "Singham Returns" won't be able to beat "Kick" (₹231.85 crore) record.
Here are some of the reasons why "Singham Returns" won't beat "Kick" lifetime record.
Screen count: "Singham Returns" was released in 3600 screens in India, while "Kick" was released in more than 4000.
Salman Fever: It's a known fact that Salman has huge fan base in India compared to Devgn. And it is proved with the box office numbers, Salman has seven films in ₹100 crore, while Devgn has five films.
Festive Release: Eid is considered to be Salman's lucky period to release his films. "Singham Returns" benefitted with Independence Day holiday on first day and Janmasthi holiday on Monday. Despite a working day on Friday, "Kick" opened on a humongous note and it worked well during weekdays due to Eid holiday.
New Releases: "Kick" enjoyed the box office run for two weeks as no new films were released when the film entered second week. Also, in third week "Entertainment" failed to affect the business of "Kick". But on the other hand, "Singham Returns" had only one week to fetch in decent money. In its second week Rani Mukherji's "Mardaani" and two other films were released.
