Looks like Priyanka Chopra will not stop at anything. From being a versatile and successful Bollywood actress to garnering popularity in the international market with her singing talent, Chopra has tasted success in every phase of her career.
And now the successful actress has been roped in by Hollywood's popular studio, American Broadcasting Company - ABC Television Network, to play the lead in a show.
ABC network has made some popular shows such as "Castle" and "Modern Family", but this is the first time that any Hollywood show has signed an Indian actor to play the lead. While "Lunch Box" actress Nimrat Kaur has featured in popular TV series "Homeland", it wasn't a lead role.
On Tuesday, the 32-year-old actress signed a one-year contract with ABC's Executive Vice President of Casting, Keli Lee, who flew down to Mumbai to personally meet Chopra and seal the deal, reported Deccan Chronicle.
"Priyanka has been roped in by the ABC network, which has shows such as 'Scandal', 'Castle,' 'Grey's Anatomy' and 'Modern Family' in their roster, for a fictional series. She has already tasted success in the US with her singles In my city, Exotic and I can't make you love me, and is looking to make the most of this popularity with her TV show," a source close to Chopra told Hindustan Times.
That's not all. The plot of the new show is said to revolve around the central character played by the "Mary Kom" actress, which means that the Bollywood actress will grab maximum limelight.
Chopra has reportedly agreed to a deal, close to what Sofia Vergara got for "Modern Family". In 2014, a popular business magazine listed Vergara as the highest paid female actor on American television with approximate total earnings of $37 million.
Elated with the association with popular Hollywood studio, Chopra said: "I am honoured and excited to have inked this deal with ABC. The fact that the network will be developing customised TV content, specifically with me in mind, is amazing. I've been a long-time fan of ABC shows, and an admirer of how the network has changed the landscape of TV through the diversity of their lead characters. To follow in the footsteps of game-changers like Sofia Vergara, Kerry Washington and Eva Longoria is a matter of pride for me. I am looking forward to this endeavour."
The team is presently said to be working on the details of the show, and will ensure that the former Miss World's Bollywood commitments don't overlap with the Hollywood show.
