"Tere Bin Laden" fame Abhishek Sharma's latest directorial venture "The Shaukeens" has created a lot of buzz in the media for two good reasons. Firstly, it is a remake of 1982 cult classic comedy "Shaukeen" starring Ashok Kumar, Utpal Dutt, AK Hangal, Rati Agnihotri and Mithun Chakraborty. Secondly, it features Bollywood Superstar Akshay Kumar in an extended special role.
"The Shaukeens" is a family entertainer that is high on comic quotient. The movie is all about how three retired old men try to impress a girl, who is of the age of their granddaughter. "Pan Singh Tomar" filmmaker Tigmanshu Dhulia has penned the script for the modern adaptation of "Shaukeen" and has made several changes in the characterisation and screenplay in a bid to strike a chord with the younger generation.
Anupam Kher, Annu Kapoor, Piyush Mishra and Lisa Haydon have played the lead roles in "The Shaukeens". Akshay Kumar appears as alcoholic superstar and his portions are one of the main highlights of the film. Abhishek Bachchan, Kareena Kapoor, Suniel Shetty, Dimple Kapadia and Michelle have made special appearances.
"The Shaukeens", which is made on a budget of ₹35 crore, has been produced by Ashvin Varde, Murad Khetani and Akshay Kumar. While Chaudhary Amalendu handled cinematography for "The Shaukeens", Yo Yo Honey Singh, Hard Kaur, Vikram Nagi and Arko Mukherjee have composed music for the songs of the movie, which have already become a hit with listeners.
Having received U/A certificate from the Censor Board, "The Shaukeens" released in overseas theatres on 6 November. The filmgoers, who watched the movie, are impressed with its entertainment quotient and have said that the lead actors' performances, engrossing screenplay, punch dialogues, comedy scenes, trendy music, amazing camera work, exotics locales of Mauritius are the main highlights of the film.
