Chennai: Superstar Rajinikanth, who is known to be a very private person off the screen, has created a buzz.
For the first time, the legendary actor approached the Madras High Court to file a petition against the release of the Hindi film, Main Hoon Rajinikanth.
The film features Adhitya Menon in the lead and has come under the scanner for using the Superstar’s name without his consent.
The petition came up for hearing before Justice S. Tamilvanan on Wednesday, who granted an interim injunction restraining the release.
In Rajini’s petition, he has given a detailed brief about his policy of not endorsing any product or a film using his name, without his prior permission as it may mislead his fan base.
It is also rumoured that the movie defames Rajini, portraying him in poor light.
In his petition, Rajinikanth stated that he was distressed that the film had scenes of immoral nature, “which is entirely unethical to the nature of films chosen by him and his image or reputation amongst the public. In having his name or image or caricature being associated with such feature film of immoral and promiscuous nature, he would be subject to defamation, slander and gross damage to vast reputation or goodwill amongst the public across the world and the Indian film industry, which has been built over the hard work of several years.”
The film is about a CBI officer named Rajinikanth Rao, who is also a contract killer.
Adhitya Menon, who has acted in films like Villu and Billa, said that the film doesn’t portray the Superstar in a bad light.
“The film is a satire, which is a tribute to Rajini. How can we portray him in a bad way when he is an idol for millions of people in India? Other than the name, it has nothing to do with Rajini sir. It has a good content which will make his fans proud.
The shoot of the film is over and I hope that the ban will be removed,” said Adhitya.
Faisal Saif, the director of the film and spokesperson for Varsha Productions, said that they haven’t received any intimation from the court.
“We have not yet received the letter from court. Once we get it, we will take appropriate steps, and prove that it’s a film which is actually a tribute to Thalaivar, in a funny way. I’m his fan and will never do a film with bad content about him,” he says.
Faisal adds, “We have not used any caricatures or images of Thalaivar at all. Also, it’s not a biopic, and that’s why we didn’t get any permission before. The only thing we have used in the film is Rajinikanth jokes, which are widely circulated on the Web on a daily basis.”
