Karthi's Tamil film "Madras" has received positive reviews from the critics.
"Madras" is director Pa. Ranjith's second directorial venture post the success of his debut film "Attakathi."
Karthi and Catherine Tresa play the lead roles in the film set in north Madras. The film's music is composed by Santosh Narayanan, while cinematography is handled by G. Murali and editing is done by Praveen K.L.
The film's story revolves around a wall located in the housing board community. Kaali (Karthi), a software professional, leads a happy life with his best friend Anbu (Kalaiarasan) until he gets caught in a situation when the issue of the wall comes up. There is also a love track between Kaali and Kalaiarasi (Catherine Tresa).
Critics have appreciated director Ranjith for coming up with a gritty thriller. The performances of actors, including Karthi, Catherine Tresa, Kalaiarasan and the new comers have won accolades for their solid performances.
The film's music, cinematography and editing have fetched positive feedback from the critics.

"The film encompasses elements like politics, drama, friendship, romance, betrayal, revenge and pride, and is a gripping affair all the way, with just a few minor breathers in the second half when the fare becomes predictable," according to Behindwoods Review Board.
"The movie is intense throughout and the dialogues are quite relatable. There is an undercurrent of humour throughout the film, which could also be a reflection of the way North Madras people react to difficult situations. The interval fight sequence is electrifying and it will definitely be rated as one of the best intermission blocks in Tamil films," said Sai Shyam G of iflickz.
"The first half of Madras has some unique moments that deserved to be mentioned, which actually sum up the characters, like an overprotective mom who wants a fitting bride for her son and the rare but convincing friendship of Kaali and Anbu, a street loafer who roams around as Johnny! Not to single out the romance that blooms between Karthi and Catherine," according to Indiaglitz.
"The director sets the stage for a blood boiling revenge tale through the second half and springs in some surprises that only seems logical," the website stated.
"'Madras' biggest strengths are its characterizations and casting. Being a top hero, it is good to see Karthi in a well sketched role. Karthi's natural humor and swag bring in all sorts of emotion for the Kaali character, easily this is his best performance after Paruthiveeran and Ayirathil Oruvan," according to Rajasekar S of Cinemalead.
