The four days box office collection of Priyanka Chopra's "Mary Kom" has been steady in India.
The four days earning of the sports biopic have shattered the 10 days total of Emraan Hashmi's "Raja Natwarlal".
"Mary Kom" accumulated ₹32.02 crore in four days, while "Raja Natwarlal" raked in ₹26.83 crore in 10 days.
The film managed to beat "Raja Natwarlal" income, but its earnings declined drastically on Monday. It recorded only ₹3.75 crore income from Monday's run in India.
Here is the breakup of the film: Friday ₹8.02 crore, ₹9.2 crore, Sunday ₹11.05 crore and Monday ₹3.75 crore.
The film has been doing well in Mumbai and North circuits. Also, shows have been going housefull in Assam and Meghalaya circuits.
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi exempted the film from entertainment tax to pull the crowd, but the overall contribution from Northeast circuit is minimal.
"Maximum business is from Mumbai and Delhi. It should be able to earn Rs.45 crore in one week at least. The subject and Priyanka's performance are the highpoints of the film," Rajesh Thadani of Multimedia Combines told IANS.
"The subject of the film is known and Mary is from the northeast, so naturally there are sentiments attached," a distributor from Assam told IANS.
The makers are now planning to release the film in boxer Mary Kom's hometown, where Hindi films are banned.
"Manipur release was initiated earlier, but there was no positive response as Hindi films are not screened there. However, all efforts are in the direction of getting a theatrical release in Manipur," said a source from Viacom18 Motion Pictures.
Omung Kumar's directorial debut has also received positive response from the southern circuits. The film has taken the multiplexes by storm, but it failed to register same growth in single screens.
"It's a hit in the multiplexes, but not in smaller markets as audiences here favour watching a male superstar's Hindi film," trade analyst Trinath said.
