This week's two big releases "Daawat-e-Ishq" and "Khoobsurat" had a slow start at the domestic box office. Both the films opened to occupancy of around 20 percent in the morning shows.
Trade analysts had high hopes from "Daawat-e-Ishq", but the film failed to live up to the expectations. Starring Parineeti Chopra and Aditya Roy Kapur, the film opened to mixed reviews, mostly negative, from critics.
The songs, trailer and promotion strategy successfully generated a big hype, but the film disappointed with its predictable storyline.
The film helmed by Habib Faisal was released in 1600 screens in India and is expected to fetch in more numbers from multiplexes compared to single screens.
However, its run largely depends on word of mouth. If audience opening day review is negative, the collection would drop by weekdays. But if audiences loved the film, it is likely to have a decent first week.
Faisal's directorial film also features Anupam Kher and television actor Karan Wahi in key roles.
Meanwhile, the second film of this week "Khoobsurat" had the same fate as "Daawat-e-Ishq" at the box office. The film, which features Sonam Kapoor and Pakistani heartthrob Fawad Khan in lead, has also opened to mixed reviews and low occupancy.
But surprisingly, the film has received positive response from audience, which will help the business of the film during the weekdays.
The film will also do well in overseas market especially Pakistan, as it features Khan in the lead role. Khan has a huge fan following in the neighbouring country and hence his first Bollywood debut film is expected to fetch a good start.
