Dhanush's "Velai Illa Pattathari" ("VIP") has minted ₹50 crore nett at the worldwide box office. The actor himself has announced the film's collections on his Twitter page.

"VIP" is one of the biggest hit films of 2014. The film, which hit the screens on 18 July, took a good opening at the box office and minted over ₹12 crore in its opening weekend at the Tamil Nadu box office. The film's 10-day collections amounted to over ₹24 crore. It also fared well in overseas locations, including the US, UK and Malaysia.
With no big releases, "VIP" continued its good run even in its second week. The film managed to hold well despite facing competition from Siddharth starrer "Jigarthanda" in its third week.
"VIP" has turned out to be a blockbuster and has emerged as the biggest hit in Dhanush's career. The film recently completed 25-day theatrical run in India and overseas markets.
With "Anjaan" release, "VIP" collections are expected to drop drastically. It will be interesting to see if "Anjaan" will be able to beat "VIP" collections at the box office.
Directed by cinematographer-turned-director Velraj, "VIP" is about an unemployed graduate who manages to get a job and raises up against all odds. The romantic action entertainer has Amala Paul, Vivek, Samuthirakani, Saranyaa Ponvannan and Amitesh in supporting roles.
"VIP" is Dhanush's 25th film in his career and it received positive reviews from critics and the audience alike. Dhanush's performance and Anirudh's tracks are the major highlights of the film. The success of the film is significant for Dhanush, as the actor's last two Tamil films - "Mariyaan" and "Naiyaandi" failed to set the cash registers ringing.
The national-award winner has produced the action entertainer under his Wunderbar Films banner.
If the latest reports are to be believed, "VIP" is all set to be remade in Hindi. However, there is no official confirmation regarding this.
