Suriya's "Sikindar" (Telugu dubbed version of "Anjaan") has witnessed a huge drop in its collections at the AP and Nizam box office.
The film took a fantastic opening and minted approximately ₹3 crore share on the first day of its release. However, the films collections noticed drops in the following days owing to negative reviews from the critics and the audience alike.
"Sikindar" (aka "Sikandar") has minted approximately ₹5.45 crore share (including collections from 12 screens showing the original version "Anjaan") in its opening weekend at the AP and Nizam box office, according to Andhraboxoffice website. "Sikindar" hit screens on 15 August amid huge buzz. However, the film failed to live up to the expectations with many blaming its weak script. The pre-release buzz helped the film rake in fantastic collections on the opening day. But, the film could not sustain its momentum at the box office.
However, "Sikindar" is expected to hold on to screens as there are no other big releases for the next few days. Jr NTR's "Rabhasa" is the next big release in Telugu. The family drama, directed by Santosh Srinivas, is all set to hit screens on 29 August. Until the release of "Rabhasa," Suriya's "Sikindar" is expected to perform decent business at the box office.
The Lingusamy directorial has Suriya appearing in two characters. Samantha plays the female lead and appears in a glamourous avatar. Brahmanandam, Bollywood actors Vidyut Jamwal and Manoj Bajpai are also part of the film's cast.
"Sikindar" is a typical revenge drama with mass elements. The film is produced by Thirrupathi Brothers and UTV Motion Pictures. Its music is composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja of "Panjaa" fame.
The Tamil version – "Anjaan" - also did exceptionally well in the opening weekend. However, the film's collections are expected to drop in the weekdays. The makers of the Tamil version have trimmed 20 minutes from the film after receiving flak for the lengthy runtime. But, the Telugu version has not reportedly been re-edited.
