"Singham Returns" has climbed one more step to near the list of top 10 highest grossing films of Bollywood. The film has now beaten the lifetime box office collection record of Akshay Kumar's "Rowdy Rathore" to become the 11th highest grosser film.
"Singham Returns", starring Ajay Devgn and Kareena Kapoor Khan, completed its two week-run in India on Thursday, making a business of around ₹135.40 crore overall.
In its first week, the film minted around ₹112 crore and in following week, it earned ₹23 crore, according to Bollywood Hungama.
In two weeks, the film broke the record of "Rowdy Rathore", which earned ₹133.25 crore in 2012. "Singham Returns" is now looking to beat Salman Khan's "Dabangg".
The film continues to score well in Mumbai circuits, compared to the other places in the country.
Mardaani
Rani Mukerji's "Mardaani" has had a powerful first week. In seven days, the film earned ₹22.97 crore at the domestic box office.
Here is the first week breakup of the film: Friday ₹3.46 crore, Saturday ₹4.75 crore, Sunday ₹6.25 crore Monday ₹2.43 crore, Tuesday ₹2.41 crore, Wednesday 1.92 crore and Thursday 1.95 crore.
Theatres in metros contributed mostly to its first week earnings. The film got tax exemption in three states: UP, MP and Maharashtra. But since the tax was exempted only at the end of first week, the film did not benefit much from it.
In its second week, the film is expected to have the same pace in collections, since the word of mouth is strong.
Meanwhile, Mukherji, in an interview with the Press Trust of India, said that she does not know the box office numbers but her husband Aditya Chopra keeps track of the business of the film.
"I don't know about the recovery in detail. As a producer, it is important for him (Aditya) to deal with numbers. For me as an actor I can't equate numbers with my creativity. If I do so then I will have to do films which in my head will get numbers," Mukherji stressed.
