PK has taken off excellently on its first day. According to early estimates, the film has collected in the range of 30-31 crores at the domestic box office. The first day was expected to be massive and considering that it was a normal Friday, the collections are very good.
Since PK had shown good advance bookings in metros, the film will certainly show a good jump on the second day. The film performed its best in multiplexes and especially, Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore received huge footfalls. One of the reasons for an expected big opening number was the high ticket rates in multiplexes and so a collection in the 30 crore range was not difficult.
It will be interesting to see if PK will surpass Happy New Year’s big opening collection of 44 crores plus on its second day.
