Lisa Haydon and Akshay Kumar's "The Shaukeens" surprisingly opened to a good response at the box office as it collected around ₹5.12 crore on opening day. But on the other hand, Randeep Hooda and Nandana Sen's "Rang Rasiya" opened to a poor response.
The box office collection report of the both the films contradict the critics' reviews. While, "The Shaukeens" got mixed reviews, "Rang Rasiya" received positive reviews for the storyline.
However, business wise "The Shaukeens" has won the box office war.
The Shaukeens
The film is a remake of the 1982 cult-classic comedy film of the same name. It tells the story of three old lecherous men – played by Annu Kapoor, Piyush Mishra and Anupam Kher – who want to have fun in life.
The film has received flak from critics' for objectifying women. Our reviewer too noted that the film was not at all a laugh riot and instead portrayed women in bad light.
"What could've have been a laugh riot was reduced to a boring journey of three men indulging in unabashed objectification of women," IBTimes India reviewer explained.
However, the film managed to garner audience attention, which is why it raked in over ₹5 crore, according to Bollywood Hungama. The film had average response in the morning shows and didn't show much growth in the evening and night shows.
The main competitor of "The Shaukeens" at the theater is "Happy New Year", but even the Shah Rukh Khan starrer has become two weeks old. So, there are fair chances for "The Shaukeens" to earn some decent moolah during the opening weekend at the box office.
Rang Rasiya
Randeep's film "Rang Rasiya" has received rave reviews, but the film failed to attract audience on the opening day. The drama film based on the life of painter Raja Ravi Varma has fetched in less than a crore from first Friday's theatrical run.
The business of the film is expected to rise since the word of mouth is really solid, but the box office collection completely relies on audience reaction.
