Telugu actor Shweta Basu Prasad, who was recently arrested over prostitution charges and sent to a rescue home, has been allowed to stay with her mother as per a Sessions Court order.
On 30 September, a lower court had directed that Shweta Basu Prasad should continue to stay at the rescue home for six months for 'rehabilitation'. Her mother had recently filed a revision plea at the Sessions Court, challenging the lower court's order. In her application, she had stated that her daughter was framed and keeping her at the rescue home was a violation of her fundamental rights.
After hearing the revision plea, the court agreed to hand over the custody of Shweta Basu Prasad to her mother. "The sessions court called for a fresh report from the rescue home, which stated that it had no objection to her release," PTI quoted defence lawyer Pradeep Kumar as saying.
Shweta Basu Prasad was arrested by the Hyderabad Police on 31 August after she was caught engaged in the high profile prostitution racket at a reputed hotel in Banjara Hills. After the interrogation, the police had produced her in a lower court, which had sent her to the rescue home for six months for "rehabilitation".
During the interrogation, she had admitted that she made wrong choice to support her family. "I've made wrong choices in my career, and I was out of money. I'd to support my family and some other good causes. All the doors were closed, and some people encouraged me to get into prostitution to earn money," said the actress in a statement to the police.
Meanwhile, she had also hinted at several actresses involved in flesh trade, "I was helpless, and with no option left to choose, I got involved in this act. I'm not the only one who faced this problem, and there are several other heroines who have gone through this phase," added Shweta Basu Prasad.
