While most of the directors prefer to keep their film short and crisp, Farah Khan wants to go with the traditional way by making "Happy New Year" (HNY) as one of the longest films.
After the trailer, the filmmakers have now decided to make "HNY" the longest running film.
Before sending it to the censor board, the length of the Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer was 188 minutes (3 hours, 8 minutes), according to DNA.
Now, the makers have cut short the movie by 4 minutes, keeping its length to 184 minutes. The grand Diwali release is one of the longest Bollywood films and probably the longest film of 2014.
"HNY" is a musical heist drama that features grand sets, colourful costumes, dance sequences, stage shows and many more. The film has 20 minutes long dance sequences, choreographed by ace Bollywood choreographers, according to reports.
Also, Bollywood directors and actors, including Anupam Kher, Anurag Kashyap, Vishal Dadlani, Sajid Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Dino Morea among others will do a cameo in the film.
The film also features Shah Rukh's wife Gauri Khan and their youngest son AbRam in guest roles.
Considering the above mentioned factors, one can say that the film would be entertaining even though it is long.
Shah Rukh had previously decided to keep the trailer long, so that the audience will get to see the important parts more prominently.
"Shah Rukh was against cutting a short promo for HNY. He was of the opinion that the audience should be able to gauge the massive canvas of the film and enjoy the rich production values. Hence he asked his editor to cut a promo that is lengthy and shows every aspect of the film," a source close to the project told DNA earlier this year.
Meanwhile, Farah Akhtar's "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" is one among the longest running films till date with a run time of 189 minutes.
Meanwhile, this year's longest films are Akshay Kumar's "Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty" with a run time of 170 minutes (2 hours 50 minutes) and Hrithik Roshan's "Bang Bang" with 154 minutes (2 hours 34 minutes).
