After the success of "Singam 2", director Hari surprised the industry through his announcement of teaming up with Vishal Krishna. While people had expected him to join hands with an A-list actor, he selected Vishal Krishna, with whom he had worked with "Thaamirabharani" way back in 2007. Like his earlier movies, the latest Tamil movie too belongs to action-thriller genre.
Team Selection:
After roping in Vishal as the hero, Hari approached Shruti Hassan to play the female lead in "Poojai". But the actress took her own time to give her nod and it was followed by the signing in of senior actor Sathyaraj, who has a pivotal role in the film. For an important character, Bollywood's yesteryear actress Rekha was approached but she could not take it up and the role went to Raadhika Sarathkumar. The remaining artistes were picked based on their availability.
The process of finalising the technical team was quickly wrapped up. Yuvan Shankar Raja, who had earlier composed music for Hari-Vishal's movie "Thaamirabharani", joined them again. The director selected his favourites Priyan and VT Vijay for handling cinematography and editing departments.
Story:
What do audience expect from director Hari and Vishal's movies? Lots and lots of action! Yes, the duo has teamed up for a mass-masala movie, which begins in Coimbatore and comes to an end in a thrilling way in Patna. It's an action-triangle where the hero has to handle two different problems separately. The story mainly focuses on the nation's major issue and the director has laced it with romance.

Shooting:
The shooting for Poojai kick-started in April 2014. Hari completed the filming in less than five months in multiple schedules. The highlight of the shooting was that the team erected a set similar to popular locality Gandhi Bazaar in Coimbatore. Filming in Coimbatore would have been time-consuming and hence the director erected a set in Chennai itself.
Troubles:
Vishal injured his middle finger while doing an action sequence in Chennai. The shooting was halted for a while. A few weeks later, the actor was injured again. This time, he had a fracture during the shoot of an action scene. However, these temporary troubles did not affect the film to much extent as the shooting was completed on time.
Music:
The audio of Poojai has lived up to audience expectations. "Devathayai", "Soda Bottle" and "Veraarum" tracks have impressed the music listeners.
Massive Release:
"Poojai", which has got 'U/A' certificate from the censor board, will have a wide release. More than the Tamil version, it is the Telugu version, which is getting a grand welcome. It is releasing in 400 screens in Andhra Pradesh on 24 October.
