Shah Rukh Khan's "Happy New Year", which got an overwhelming response at the box office in its opening weekend, has completely halted the collections of old releases such as Hrithik Roshan's "Bang Bang" and Shahid Kapoor's "Haider" at the Indian box office.
Released in a record number of screens on 2 October, "Bang Bang" debuted with a fantastic response and collected ₹94.13 crore nett at the domestic box office in its opening weekend. Following a mixed feedback from the viewers, the movie was withdrawn from many threatres across the country in its second week, which resulted in a 75% drop in its business in the second weekend with its collection falling to ₹19.23 crore.

In its third week, the screen count of "Bang Bang" was reduced to 500 theatres. When compared to its second weekend business, the movie witnessed another 70%+ of fall in its collection in the third weekend earning just ₹5 crore. The film raked in ₹179.08 crore nett at the domestic box office in 25 days.
Meanwhile "Haider", which released with "Bang Bang", also got superb opening and collected ₹26.78 crore at the domestic box office in the first weekend. Like "Bang Bang", the Shahid Kapoor starrer also witnessed huge fall in the second and third weekends with its collection amounting to ₹9.08 crore and ₹2.83 crore respectively. The film raked in a total of ₹58.30 crore at the domestic box office in 25 days.
"Bang Bang" and "Haider" lost out a huge amount of theatres to new release "Happy New Year" and their screen count was reduced to almost nil in the fourth week. Both the films had to struggle to cross ₹180 crore and ₹60 crore marks respectively at the domestic box office in their fourth weekend. Their business was completely halted by the new release of the week.
"Happy New Year" is one of the most-hyped and highly anticipated Bollywood movies of 2014. The film goers were desperately waiting to watch the film. Released in 4500 screens in the domestic market, the Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer became the first and the only choice of movie buffs. It raked in ₹ 108.86 crore at the domestic box office in its opening weekend.
