Ram Charan's "Govindudu Andarivadele" ("GAV") has crossed the ₹40-crore mark at the worldwide box office.
"GAV" has minted ₹32.25 crore share from AP/Nizam areas while the rest of the collections are from Karnataka, other Indian states and overseas markets. It has raked in over ₹40 crore in two weeks, reported Andhraboxoffice. "GAV" is Ram Charan's fifth film to enter the ₹40 crore club after "Naayak," "Racha", "Magadheera" and "Yevadu."
The film has surpassed the final collections of Allu Arjun's "Julayi", which had collected ₹40 crore worldwide. It has to be seen if the family entertainer beats the total collections of Charan's "Yevadu", which amounts to ₹47.1 crore share. "Yevadu" turned out to be one of the biggest hits of 2014.
Whether "GAV" also achieves the hit status is something one needs to wait and watch.
Arjun's "Race Gurram" still remains the highest grossing film of the year with ₹57.65 crore. Though several biggies like "Rabhasa" and "Aagadu" have hit the screens, they failed to perform as expected and turned out to be flops.
Trade experts also expected "GAV" to beat "Race Gurram" collections, but it might not be able to surpass the figures as several films are set to hit the screens in the coming days.
The Charan starrer took good openings owing to extended holidays, but its collections dropped in the weekdays. It picked up during the second weekend and raked in ₹39.5 crore in 12 days at the worldwide box office.
The film has surpassed the total collections of "Businessman", "Pokiri", "Manam", "Arundhati", "Dhammu", "Aagadu", "Cameraman Gangatho Rambabu", "Iddarammayilatho" and "Simha" in just 12 days.
The collections are expected to drop again in the coming days due to new releases. On 17 September, Naga Chaitanya's "Oka Laila Kosam" will be released in around 650 screens worldwide.
The release of a new film is likely to reduce the screen count for "GAV". This will, in turn, affect the film's business prospects. Although there are no big Telugu films releasing for Diwali, "GAV" might still find it difficult to hold well due to other-language releases like "Happy New Year", "Kaththi" and "Poojai."
