Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif starrer action film "Bang Bang" has edged past Salman Khan's "Kick", but it fails to beat Ajay Devgn's "Singham Returns" opening day box office collection record in India.

On its opening day, Siddharth Anand's directorial film minted ₹27.54 crore, Fox Star confirmed. The film failed to emerge as the highest opener of 2014, but it easily placed itself in the top openers list.

"It's official- #BangBangMovie collects ₹27.54 cr on 1st day! Smashes into the top 5 openings of all time in Bollywood. #awesome Bang-Buster," Fox Star tweeted.

The opening day box office income of "Bang Bang" is highest ever for Roshan. Last year, Roshan's "Krrish 3", which was a non-holiday release, earned ₹25.5 crore, but "Bang Bang" has shattered that record.

"#BangBangMovie gets #KatrinaKaif her 3rd film in top 5 openings of all time in Bollywood. Congratulations & Taaliyan all arnd, tweeples," Fox Star tweeted.

Despite facing competition from Shahid Kapoor's "Haider", Roshan's "Bang Bang" opened on a humongous note in India.

The film opened to huge number of screens and great occupancy at the domestic box office. The theatres witnessed around 90 to 100 occupancy, while the screen count was 5,000 screens worldwide.

The production team, Fox Star, confirmed that the film has released in 4,300 screens in India and 852 screens overseas.

With huge number of screens, the film opened to housefull status at several theatres across the country. Maximum shows in Mumbai, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan and Gujarat were housefull.
