The recent arrest of former child actress and National award winner Shweta Basu Prasad in a prostitution racket, has set an alarm in the south Indian film industry.
Several celebs from the industry are in utter fear as further interrogations with Prasad may possibly expose the ones allegedly involved in the sex trade business.
"There are fears among some of the actresses of Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam movies regarding what Shweta could reveal. The information could damage their reputation," S. M. Swamy, a casting director from Chennai told India Today.
Meanwhile, there has been a fury among the crowd over the fact that the information regarding Prasad's high profile clients has not been revealed and instead the actress' popularity has been targeted. However, recently various news surfaced that Prasad is ready to identify her clients, who are supposedly influential business tycoons.
Additionally, this is not the first time her name has surfaced in association with the rough trade. Prasad was earlier caught red-handed in a sting operation carried out by a Telugu channel, where she was found demanding money in return for sexual favours.
The talented actress made her debut as a child artist in the popular TV serial "Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki" and thereafter she even bagged some Bollywood films like "Iqbal"(2005) and "Makdee" (2002), for which she won the National Award for the best child artist.
Prasad later tried her hands down South and worked as lead actress in a few low budget South Indian films.
Incidentally, the 23-year-old actress is not the first South Indian actress to be caught in a prostitution trade.
On Monday, Telegu actress, Divya Sri who starred in "B Tech Babu" was also arrested for prostitution from Guntur, Andhra Pradesh.
Back in 2011, a Bangalore based actress, who had worked with top Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam films, was exposed by the police at a hotel in Bangalore and in 2010, two Telugu film actresses, Saira Banu and Jyothi, were arrested similarly, but were later released on bail.
