Priyanka Chopra starrer "Mary Kom" completed its one week run at the domestic box office collecting ₹46 crore. The sports biopic had a decent run in India in its first week.
Chopra starrer had limited screen count in India, but due to word of mouth it performed well during weekends. The collection declined on Monday, which is expected due to first working day, but the fall was around 50 percent compared to opening day. The drop in the business on Monday affected the overall income of the film.
Here is the first week breakup of the film: Friday ₹8.4 crore, Saturday ₹9.5 crore, Sunday ₹12.7 crore, Monday ₹4.5 crore, Tuesday ₹4.05 crore, Wednesday ₹3.5 crore and Thursday ₹3.35 crore.
With two big films releasing this week, the collection of the film is expected to drop further. The film would not be able to join the ₹100 crore club as in its third week, the film would face competition from another big releases.
When Chopra was asked whether her film will cross the ₹100 crore mark, she said: "Please! Don't put such pressure on us."
Chopra said that her women centric movie is a small film and it should not be compared with other big films.
"Our film is already successful and I only hope that it sets an example that even female centric films can do well. I don't know what our destiny is, but I don't want to put such pressure on our film," Chopra told IANS.
Meanwhile, this week's release "Finding Fanny" starring Deepika Padukone and Arjun Kapoor has opened on a decent note in India.
English language entertainer "Finding Fanny", which also features Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur and Dimple Kapadia, has targeted the multiplex audiences with higher number of screen count compared to single screens.
The response from audience as well critics has been positive and hence it opened to occupancy of around 40 to 45 percent, according to Koimoi.com. The occupancy is expected to increase in the evening and night shows.
"We are overwhelmed with response Finding Fanny is getting. The reviews are fantastic and we've opening well this morning, the evening shows are all also filling up. We are very thankful for support the film has got from the industry. We are looking at a good first day and hopefully a fantastic week end," producer Dinesh Vijan told Koimoi.com.
