Alia Bhatt, who is currently one of the most sought after actresses of Bollywood filmmakers, appears to have bagged another big project.

The buzz is that Bhatt has been roped in to play the lead role in the film adaptation of Chetan Bhagat's yet-to-be-launched book "Half Girlfriend".

The book "Half Girlfriend" is set to unveil on 1 October and is based on a young lady Riya, who is a student of St Stephen's College. A boy from rural areas of Bihar, falls in love with the high class student. Riya wants to remain as his friend, and decides to be his half girlfriend.

According to a report, Mohit Suri of "Aashiqui 2" and "Ek Villain" fame, who has been helmed for the film, believes that Bhatt, who is also his cousin, can do complete justice to the character of the book.

"It's a role tailor-made for Alia and both Mohit and Chetan believe that Alia, who had earlier played Ananya Swaminathan in '2 States' based on another Chetan bestseller, will do complete justice to Riya. Alia herself is keen to work with Mohit, who is her cousin," a source told Mumbai Mirror.

"Alia is an amazing actress. I'm currently developing the script and haven't reached the casting stage. All I can say at the moment is that she'd be great for the part," Suri told the daily.

However, no confirmation regarding the lead casts of the film has been announced by the film makers.

Produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ekta Kapoor, "Half Girlfriend" is expected to go on floors by next year.

If the deal is sealed between Bhatt and Bhagat, this would be the "Highway" actress' second collaboration with the author after  "2 States".

In "2 States", the "Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya" actress played the role of a South Indian girl who falls in love with a Punjabi boy played by Arjun Kapoor.

Meanwhile, Bhatt is currently busy shooting for Vikas Bahl's "Shandaar" opposite Shahid Kapoor. The bubbly actress has another big project in her kitty and will be next seen in Ayan Mukherji directorial opposite heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor.
