Rohit Shetty's directorial film "Singham Returns" had an excellent opening weekend box office collection in India. The action drama, featuring Ajay Devgn and Kareena Kapoor Khan in the lead role, had the second highest three-day earnings this year, after Salman Khan's "Kick".

Breaking Records

"Singham Returns" is on a roll at the box office in India by earning ₹77.64 crore in three days. The first record "Singham Returns" broke was "Kick" opening day total and now it has become the second highest first weekend grosser.

From the first three days, "Singham Returns" minted ₹77.64 crore, thus breaking the opening weekend records of "Jai Ho" and Ranbir Kapoor's "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani".

Salman's "Jai Ho" three days total stands at ₹60.68 crore, while "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani" total is ₹62.11 crore.

"Singham Returns" also broke the lifetime records of films released this year, including "Gunday", "Queen" and "Main Tera Hero" and "Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania".

Devgn's Highest Opener

"Singham Returns" is Devgn's by far the biggest opener beating "Bol Bachchan", according to Box Office India. The latest film has also shattered the records of its prequel, "Singham".

With "Singham Returns", Devgn has entered the box office chart of highest grosser actors, which features Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan on top.

Shetty's directorial has received positive feedback from audiences. The response at both single screens and multiplexes has been humongous, which resulted in great numbers during the weekend.

And riding high on word of mouth, the film will maintain its excellent run at box office during weekdays also. Due to Janmashtami holiday in several parts of the country, the film is expected to earn huge numbers on Monday.

The four-day total of the film will be grand, but it remains to be seen whether the film will maintain that momentum at the collection centers from Tuesday onwards.
