Latest reaction to the death of actor and comedian Robin Williams, 63, from a suspected suicide on Monday night
A source who worked on the set of The Crazy Ones, Williams' television series that was cancelled in May, told People magazine: "We knew he was struggling." During one scene "his face changed." The source said:
Quote He looked so exhausted and profoundly, deeply sad. And then one minute later he pulled himself back together, and he nailed the scene
James Dunn, a drama professor whon taught the young Williams at College of Marin, told the Marin County Independent:
first knew he was more talented than the other kids when he played Fagin in Oliver. I remember calling my wife and telling her that this young man was going to be something special. I will miss him immensely
Barry Levinson, who directed Williams in Good Morning Vietnam, said he was a "human version of a fireworks display. Funny ideas and characters traveling almost at the speed of light." The Oscar-winning director added:
Quote There was an innocence to his thoughtful intelligence. If there were an endangered species list for mankind, he would have been first on that list. He was perhaps too delicate for this difficult world. We lost one of a kind. We all lost a friend.
The Telegraph's Josie Ensor in Tiburon writes:
Residents in Tiburon, where Williams was found dead, opened their local paper this morning to find news of their neighbour, and in some cases, friend's death. In his local coffee shop, people whispered to each other as they pored over the San Francisco Chronicle.
He had been a well-liked member of the quiet community on San Francisco Bay. He was remembered as unassuming and reserved, but only ever charming and funny, when addressed.
Ben Affleck, who starred with Williams in Good Will Hunting, issued a heartfelt tribute on behalf of himself and Matt Damon. He said:
Quote Heartbroken. Thanks chief for your friendship and for what you gave the world. Robin had a ton of love in him. He personally did so much for so many people. He made Matt (Damon) and my dreams come true. What do you owe a guy who does that? Everything. May you find peace my friend.
Fox News anchor Shepard Smith is getting criticism after he speculated on air that Robin Williams may have been a coward following his death in an apparent suicide, the Associated Press reports
Critics took to social media after Smith said Williams' children were giving him so much joy, "and yet something inside you is so horrible or you're such a coward or whatever the reason that you decide you have to end it."
Fox News made no immediate comment. Shepard was due on air later Tuesday.
Here is the complete prepared statement from Mr Boyd, assistant chief deputy coroner, on the death of Mr Williams.
Mr Williams was last seen alive by his wife at around 10.30pm on Sunday evening before she went to bed, said Keith Boyd, the assistant chief deputy coroner.
She left their home at around 10.30am the following morning, believing he was still in bed asleep.
But Mr Williams was found clothed and in his room by his personal assistant when she became concerned that he did not answer her knocking at 11.45am yesterday. Emergency services were called and Mr Williams was pronounced dead by firefighters at 12.02pm.
A preliminary investigation determined the cause of death was asphyxia due to hanging. Mr Williams was 63 and had periodic bouts of substance abuse and depression.
They are not discussing whether Mr Williams left a note, Mr Boyd said. Toxicology tests are ongoing and take a minimum of two to six weeks.
Robin Williams was found dead by his personal assistant with a belt around his neck, slightly suspended above the ground.
Keith Boyd, assistant chief deputy coroner, has just started speaking, first offering his condolences to the Williams family.

According to CNN, an autopsy for the comedian is set for later this evening. A press conference from the Sheriff's office will be held at 7pm BST.
Actor Jackie Chan has spoken of the first time he met Robin Williams, and his shock at the news of his death.
"I just don't believe it. I don't know him well but it seems like I've lost a best friend, and I think everybody feels the same thing," said Chan at the London screening of his new film, Chinese Zodiac.
"I'll never forget, I was at the Oscars green room and there was a guy in front of me. I was shocked, it was Robin Williams and he said, 'Jackie Chan!' We talked, and my mind went blank. It's Robin Williams, what shall I say? I tried to think of something to say, he had already said ten words, and then he said, 'Bye bye' and he was gone.
"I asked his office if I could have his autograph and he sent it to me. I was so happy. It's now in my office when I walk in."
