Maestro Ilayaraja's son Yuvan Shankar Raja converted into Islam earlier this year. This decision surprised many as Ilayaraja is a staunch Hindu and superstitious.
Yuvan claims he felt like getting a direct call from Allah while he was in search of answers post the sudden demise of his mother. One of his friends who just returned from Mecca gifted him a prayer mat he used while he was in Mecca to the composer who was really low. Few months later, He got very emotional while speaking to his cousin about his mother and it was then he sat on the prayer mat for the first time to feel much relieved. He then started reading Quran and Practicising Islam. In January this year, He converted to Islam.
Ilayaraja wasn't happy with his son converting into Islam. Yuvan, however, got the support he needed from his brother and his wife.
