Sarath Kumar warns Vishal over derogatory remarks

Posted by: Unknown Posted date: 13:22 / comment : 0 ,

Actors Vishal Krishna Reddy and R. Sarath Kumar have locked horns over some unwarranted remarks Vishal made on South Indian Film Artistes' Association (SIFAA) aka Nadigar Sangam, of which Sarath is the president.

Unhappy with the role of seniors in the association, Vishal recently expressed interest in contesting SIFAA elections.

"Vishal, who is eyeing the posts of the officer-bearers of the association, is making derogatory remarks against us," Sarath Kumar told reporters.

He was speaking at an event in Trichy Wednesday.

Also, Vishal's comment about the association's decision to lease out its premises to a multiplex for over two decades to enjoy funds from it was not received well by its members.

"Some of the members of the association and I have contributed from our own pockets to revive the association in the past, but we've been accused now," Sarath said.

"When the association needed financial support, where were Vishal and others? It's best if he stops making these remarks about the association or he will face dire consequences and he will be removed from primary membership," he said.

In his defence, Sarath added: "By the end of the lease period, the association will have a deposit of Rs.170 crore, which will be used to pay artistes' pension and help those struggling to make ends meet."

Vishal, however, said he never made any comment against any individual or the association.

"I'm completely shocked to hear such words from Sarath Kumar, which is obscure and fake. As an actor, I respect each and every member of the Nadigar Sangam and am ready to accept their decision of expelling me from the association, if they insist," Vishal said in a statement.

"But I would kindly request Sarath Kumar to furnish the exact proof regarding my speech against the association," he added.

Vishal alleged that association members such as Radha Ravi and K.N. Kaalai were rude to actors" and used "unparliamentary words" on several occasions.

"As per Rule No.13 of the Act, any association members hurting the sentiments of actors are strictly punishable. In fact, veteran actor Kumarimuthu was accused of such acts and was moved out. If this is the case, then K.N. Kaalai and Radha Ravi deserve the same stern actions for their pain-inflicting words," he said.

"My only concern is that justice applies the same for all, irrespective of their positions and with accordance to this, both K.N. Kaalai and Radha Ravi have to be immediately expelled from the Nadigar Sangam," Vishal added.

Vishal 'seizes' pirated Poojai film CDs

Posted by: Unknown Posted date: 12:42 / comment : 0 ,

Tamil film actor Vishaal raided a video CD shop in nearby Pollachi and seized CDs of new films, including his 'Poojai' and handed them over to police.

The owner of the video shop was taken into custody for interrogation based on a complaint from the actor, police said today. Vishaal, who has been camping in Pollachi for a film shoot, had sent two of his assistants as decoy customers to the shop last night asking for CDs of new films, particularly Tamil films. The shop owner showed them the CDs of 'Poojai' and 'Katthi', starring another popular actor Vijay, which were released only a week ago.

Vishaal, who was waiting outside, rushed in and took the pirated CDS, they said. The actor had 'raided' a video shop in Tirupur earlier this week and seized the pirated CDs of his new movie, police said.

Vishal Raids Video Shop in Tirupur; Finds Pirated CDs of 'Poojai' and 'Kaththi' [VIDEO]

Posted by: Unknown Posted date: 20:21 / comment : 0 , ,

Looks like Tamil actor Vishal is trying his level best to stop video piracy business in Tamil Nadu. The action hero again raided a video shop in Tirupur and has seized the CDs of the latest films, including Vijay's "Kaththi" and Vishal's "Poojai".

Vishal and his team informed the police and they have reportedly arrested the shop owner for selling the pirated videos. Meanwhile, one of the witnesses captured the video of the raid and has uploaded it online.

In the video, the furious actor is seen asking the shopkeeper to give him the CDs of "Kaththi" and "Poojai". Initially, he was reluctant to give them. Later, Vishal is also seen questioning him about the source and his motive of selling pirated copies.

Vijay's "Kaththi" and Vishal's "Poojai" were released for this Diwali and these pirated videos were caught at a juncture when both the films are running successful at the box office.

"Kaththi" is currently heading towards the ₹100 crore club in terms of its box office collection, whereas "Poojai" is said to be the biggest competitor for "Kaththi".

Soon after the raid, the official Twitter account of Vishal's production company "Vishal Film Factory", updated regarding the incident.

"Found a shop selling Poojai n Kaththi pirated cds in Palladam,Tirupur. Police intervened n arrested shop owner. Need to stop piracy. Alarming," tweeted Vishal Film Factory.

Meanwhile, this is not the first time Vishal has done something against piracy. Earlier, the actor had caught local cable channels in Karaikudi for telecasting the latest films "Vadacurry" and "Un Samayal Arayil" on air. The actor soon visited the channel office along with police officials and took necessary actions.

Similarly, actor and director Parthibhan with the help of the Anti Video Piracy Cell of Crime Branch had also caught pirated video sellers in Burma Bazaar, Chennai.

Diwali 2014 releases "Kaththi", "Happy New Year" and "Poojai" are performing well at the overseas box office, despite facing competition from each other.

Although "Happy New Year" is dominating on more number of screens in key overseas markets, the Tamil releases have also managed to hold themselves well at the box office.

Let's see how these films have performed in the US, the UK, Australia and Malaysia, which are key markets for Indian films.

Malaysia is a major forte for Tamil films as Tamil nationals constitute the largest percentage among the Indian minority in the country. Even big Hindi films get lesser number of screens, owing to the limited audience, compared to Tamil films.

Recently released "Kaththi" is rocking the Malaysian box office with its exceptional performance. The Vijay starrer has minted Malaysian Ringitt 1,767,970 (₹3.30 crore) in its opening weekend at the country's box office, according to Bollywood Hungama.

The film has taken the number one spot, ahead of other Indian releases like "Poojai" (Tamil) and "Happy New Year" (Hindi). The Vijay starrer has even pushed down Hollywood films and topped the weekend (23-26 October) at the Malaysian box office.

"Kaththi" is dominating over Vishal's "Poojai" and Shah Rukh Khan's "Happy New Year", which have earned MYR 568,811 (from 25 screens) and MYR 147,898 (from 13 screens) respectively. The film is expected to continue its good run at the box office and earn more.

Other markets

While "Kaththi" has managed to outperform "Poojai" in the other key overseas markets as well, the film could not stand a chance against "Happy New Year", in regions like the US, the UK and Australia, where the Shah Rukh starrer is dominating in more number of screens and registering fantastic collections.

US

"Happy New Year" has raked in 1,710,749 from 255 screens (₹10.47 crore) in its first weekend in the US. "Kaththi" was released in less than half of the screens allotted for "Happy New Year". The Vijay starrer, which hit the screens a few days ahead of "Happy New Year", grossed $559,579 from 86 screens (₹3.42 crore) in six days (from 21 to 26 October). Meanwhile, "Poojai" earned $6,125 from 15 screens (₹3.75 lakh) [Note some screens yet to report].

UK

"Happy New Year" minted £568,183 (₹5.59 crore) from 100 screens, "Kaththi" has fetched £222,581 from 56 screens (₹2.19 crore) and "Poojai" has got £8,571 from five screens (₹8.43 lakh) in their opening weekend at the UK and Ireland box office.

"Kaththi" has now surpassed Hindi film "Finding Fanny" collections, which amount to 195,826 at the end of the seventh weekend.

Australia

"Kaththi" has earned A$160,979 (₹86.81 lakh), while "Poojai" has got A$16,968 (₹9.15 lakh) and "Happy New Year" has earned A$380,115 (₹2.05 crore) from the island continent.
