Shankar's 'I': 'Bigg Boss 8' Contestant Upen Patel to Play a Baddie in Vikram Starrer? [TRAILER]

"Bigg Boss 8" contestant Upen Patel will soon be seen on silver screen after a gap of almost six years.

The model-turned-actor was last seen on the big screen in 2009 with Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif in "Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani" and after six years, he will be making his comeback with Vikram-Amy Jackson starrer Tamil film "I".

Upen, who is entertaining audience, in reality show, "Bigg Boss 8", will reportedly be seen in a negative role in Shankar's directorial film "I".

In the trailer, released on 18 December, Upen is seeing sharing screen space with Vikram and Amy Jackson. Furthermore, a song has been picturised on the "Bigg Boss 8" contestant and Amy.

"The number picturised on Amy and Upen forms an important part of the screenplay since it leads to a major twist. In typical Shankar style, it was picturised in a grand way," a source close to the film told BollywoodLife.com.

Vikram's "I" is one of the most awaited Tamil films and all-around buzz is very strong. The response is so huge that the trailer has gone viral on social media. With 36 hours, the trailer garnered 1.7 million views.

Meanwhile, last year the actor in an interview revealed how he managed to get the role in Shankar's "I". He told The Times of India that Shankar was keen to cast him in the movie.

"I feel so privileged that I'll be making my Tamil film debut under Shankar's direction. It all happened when my manager received a call that the director had a project in mind, and was keen to cast me in it," Upen told TOI.

"I was on from the minute I heard that it was his project. Later, when I was briefed about my role, it blew me away. I am not allowed to talk about my role or anything related to the film, but all I can say it's an incredibly good role," he added.

'I' Release: Vikram's Film to Clash with 'Yennai Arindhaal', 'Gopala Gopala' on 14 January?

If the latest buzz is anything to go by, the release of Vikram-Shankar's "I" might get pushed from 9 January to 14 January.

Earlier, reports emerged that the Vikram starrer will be hitting screens on 9 January a week ahead of Pongal to cash in on the long holidays. But, now it seems the film's producer Aascar Ravichandran is planning to release the film on 14 January as a Pongal treat for the fans.

"Aascar Ravichandran feels that though people in the city will be excited to see the film on January 9, people in B and C centers will always prefer films which are newly releasing for Pongal and not the one week old film," sources have told Sify.

If "I" hits the screens on 14 January, it will head for a big clash with Ajith-starrer "Yennai Arindhaal" and Telugu actor Pawan Kalyan's "Gopala Gopala", which are planned for release on the same day. According to trade experts, releasing "I" on the Pongal day might make things difficult for "Yennai Arindhaal" and "Gopala Gopala."

"Shankar's #I shouldn't miss Jan9. A further post-ponement will make things difficult for #YA worldwide & #GG in B&C centres. Unfair," stated Andhraboxoffice.

Makers of "I" are planning to have a wide release for all the versions of the film including Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. If the film clashes with other biggies like "Yennai Arindhaal" and "Gopala Gopala", it might face tough competition in grabbing enough number of screens.

An official announcement regarding the film's release date is expected after the censor details are officially announced. According to reports, "I" has been censored with a "U/A" and the makers have planned to approach the revising committee for a "U" in a bid to get tax exemption in Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, "I" team is gearing up to promote the Telugu and Hindi versions of the film. The audio of the film's Telugu version is expected to be launched on 30 December, while the team will reportedly begin promotions for the Hindi version in the first week of January 2015.

The Shankar directorial is one of the most-awaited films of 2015. The film's teasers, songs and the trailer have earned fantastic feedback from the fans. They have been raving about Vikram's different looks, the grand visuals and AR Rahman's cinematography. It needs to be seen if the film will be able to impress the audience with its content.

Release Problems For Shankar- Vikram's 'I' In Telugu

Ace director Shankar's most anticipated film 'I' is all set for a grand release across Tamil Nadu and in other countries for this Pongal. However, Telugu version of 'I' is likely to be delayed. 

According to our reports, Tollywood producers had a heated discussion at film chamber regarding the release of ‘I’ along with other Telugu films.

There is a specific rule which states that dubbing movies are not allowed to release in the festive seasons, especially when there are straight films that are ready for release.

Taking this rule into consideration, Tollywood producers are demanding that the chamber shouldn’t allow ‘I’ to be released for this Sankranti.

On the other hand, there is another group, which bought the distribution rights of ‘I’ across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. They are stating that only ‘Gopala Gopala’ will be releasing for this Sankranti and there will be a gap of 5 days between that film and ‘I’.

Gunasekhar’s ‘Rudhramadevi’ and NTR’s ’Temper’ have already announced that they won’t arrive for Sankranti. So, these distributors are requesting the concerned people to give them a green signal for the release. 

As of now, there is no clarity about the release of ‘I’ in Telugu for Sankranti.

Vikram's Shankar directed I theatrical trailer made the movie bankable. It is evident from the business I movie made through its distribution all over Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

I producer Aascar Ravichandran who was waiting for the distributors to theater his film I in the Telugu states, sold out the distribution rights of I, area wise for whooping prices. The amounts have shocked Telugu distributors, as they paid more than what they usually give out for a movie starring front line Telugu actor.

Accordingly, Kavuri Creations bagged I rights all over Krishna for 2.25 Cr, while an Ongole party bought Guntur- 3.6 Cr. Others include Nizam -12 Cr, Ceeded – 7 Cr, Vizag – 3.5 Cr, East Godavari – 2.75 Cr, West Godavari – 2 Cr and Nellore – 1.5 Cr.

I beats the pre-release business of Superstar Rajinikanth's Robo, which has approximately collected Rs.37 Cr in AP and TN regions.

Vikram's "I" trailer, which was released on 18 December, has set a new benchmark in terms of YouTube views. Now, people are curiously looking forward to see whether Ajith's "Yennai Arindhaal" breaks this record.

The stunning video-clip of "I" was released on 18 December at 10 pm and in about 36 hours, the trailer has been viewed over 1.7 million times. This, by any margin, for a Tamil film is a huge number. Vikram’s ill health hampered ‘I’ plans?

Rumours are being heard in Film circles about the delay in the release of “I” Telugu version audio. As we hear that the release of the flick is being planned for January 9th, 2015, everyone is looking forward for the release of music this month. 

Though December is closing on, there is no clue about the touted audio release. And the rumours have that Vikram is not feeling well and that is hampering the plans. They say Vikram got quite sick after changing his body weight and structure for many times for “I” from lean to fat and that affected his health badly. Don't know whether there is an iota of truth in these rumours, but “I” audio scored by AR Rahman is yet to release.
