'Aamayum Muyalum' Movie Review: Yet Another Priyadarshan Movie Meant for One-Time Watch

"Aamayum Muyalum" directed by Priyadarshan turns out to be the remake of his Bollywood "Malamaal Weekly". The film is a comedy entertainer starring Jayasurya, Innocent, Nedumudi Venu and Pia Bajpai in the lead.

The story of the movie has all typical elements of Priyadarshan movie with many characters that are weaved with a lot of complications. In fact, the movie looked like Priyadarshan revisiting his previous movies in a lighter mood and is a relief from his last outing, "Geethanjali"

"Aamayum Muyalum" is set in a poverty-ridden village of Gowlipady and the plot revolves around an incident that happens in the village. The village is completely under control of a rich land lady, who is inconsiderate about the poor state of people in the village.

Kashi played by Nedumudi Venu is a lottery dealer of the village and is the only person in the village who knows to read and write. Innocent plays Nallavan, another important person in the village and Jayasurya plays Kallu, who is in love with Nallavan's daughter Thamara (Pia Bajpai). Mamukoya plays the role of Jayasurya's father in the movie.

The story of the movie begins when one of the villagers wins the lottery and how the life of the whole village changes soon after this. In their hunt to get the lottery money, each character of the movie ends up in more and more troubles. The villagers try all their luck to get what they desire and this forms the crux of the story.

"Aamyum Muyalum" has somehow managed to keep the interest of the audience from starting till the end, but lacks depth in the script. The story is peppered with some fun elements. However, do not expect a laughter-filled script that has a smooth flow.

Though, the makers mark Jayasurya as the lead, the film is completely taken away by Innocent and Nedumudi Venu with their screen presence. The veterans have carried the movie on their shoulders and impressed the audience with their comic timing and antics.

Sukanya's character as antagonist is a rip-off of Sukumari's character in "Thenmavin Kombathu", but the actress has done justice to the role. Anoop Menon, has done a delightful cameo appearance in the movie as Vijay Nambiar. Jayasurya has also done a decent job with part, which was given to him and the lead actress Pia Bajpai has nothing much to do in the character that was given to her.

The rest of the star cast that includes Mammukoya, Nandu, KPAC Lalitha, Kochu Preman, Harishree Ashokan, Edavela Babu and Ambika has also done their part well.

The most noticeable aspect of the movie is the cinematography by Divakar Mani and editing by Ayyapan Nair. Both have done commendable job, which make the narration of the movie a pleasing one. The background score and the music of the movie were also decent enough.

To conclude, "Aamayum Muyalum" is a one-time watchable flick if you go without much expectation.

'Cousins' Malayalam Movie Review: A Poor Attempt to Bring out an Entertainer

The first impression that you get from "Cousins", directed by Vyshakh, is the fact that it rarely manages to engage audience. The movie, which is touted as a comedy thriller ends up being a highly predictable movie with the least comic experience.

The storty of "Cousins" revolves around four cousins, Sam (Kunchacko Boban), Joji (Indrajith Sukumaran), Pauly (Suraj Venjaramoodu) and Tony (Joju George). Sam suffers memory loss of six years of his college life after a brutal accident. The film begins when the cousins take a journey to Sam's past to revive his memory after doctor's recommendation and they end up in Chandragiri Palace.

Four cousins are welcomed by some dark truths about Sam's past and learn that there are some serious reasons behind Sam's accident. They also realise that Sam had a girlfriend Arathi (Vedhika), who was apparently the heir of the palace. With the help of Arathi's cousin, Mallika (Nisha Agrawal), the cousins set out to find the truth about Sam and his past.

The first half of the movie has nothing to offer in terms of entertainment or plot. The main story of the movie in fact begins only by the second half. Just when you think the movie is gaining momentum, the director in a way chose to spoil the flow of the movie by imbibing some unwanted characters and forced comedy dialogues, which of course failed to create any laughter in the theatre.

In terms of performance, Indrajith stands out among the lead actors with his impeccable acting skills and Kunchacko Boban has given out a decent performance. The characters of Suraj and Joju looked out of place. Inclusion of the Kalabhavan Shajon to add comic element failed miserably and felt irritating at times. The other characters including the female leads did not have much to do in terms of performance.

Song sequences of the movie also did not contribute much to the storyline and were placed poorly. The background score by Gopi Sundar sounded out of place.

The good aspect of the movie would be the cinematography, which managed to visualise the movie in the best way possible. The art direction of the movie was commendable and added to the rich look of the movie.

To conclude, "Cousins" failed to meet the expectations with poor scripting and a highly predictable storyline.

Hameem Haider (Indrajith) is a brilliant police officer in the Special Armed Police Department. He does his work efficiently but is an egoist to some extent. Due to external pressures, he is forced to step aside from a case he has been dealing with. He is offended by this and wants to take revenge on those behind forcing his recusal.

His earlier crime investigation becomes the focus of the reality crime show Views 24x7, and it is at this juncture that priest Varghese Punnyalan (Joy Mathew) and Journalist Haritha Menon (Asha Sarath) enter his life. Both of them want to know about Haider and his earlier investigations, but their interests are unrelated and have different motivations. In their attempts to attain their goal, each becomes aware of the other and the resulting conflict builds the rest of the story line

'The Dolphins' Review Round-up: Suresh Gopi Starrer Receives Positive Response from Critics

Malayalam film "The Dolphins", directed by Diphan, has opened in theatres with positive reviews. The film, starring Suresh Gopi, Anoop Menon, Kalpana and Meghana Raj in pivotal roles, has been widely reviewed as a film with a cleverly plotted story-line and a brilliant climax.

The story of the movie revolves around Panayamuttam Sura (Suresh Gopi), who rose to riches from rags and runs a chain of bars in Thiruvananthapuram, under the name "Dolphin Bar." He leads a comfortable life with his wife Kochuvava (Kalpana) and their children.

Though wealthy, he always feels left out in the high class community as he does not possess any highly sophisticated personality. Though he limits his social life to his close friends, they help him try to get out of this reclusiveness. However, things take a turn as an unknown woman enters his life.

Most of the critics are impressed by the way in which the film is packed with witty one-liners and dialogues, which in a way has managed to keep the audience engaged from the start till the end.

The reviewers also said the performance of the actors, especially by Suresh Gopi and Kalpana, deserved a special mention. The technical aspects and the songs are also counted among the positive factors in the film's package.

"'The Dolphins' is not exactly a director's movie, though Diphan has done a decent job," according to Metromatinee.com. "Anoop Menon has stuck to his familiar style in scripting but he did pull off a coup of sorts in the end with a memorable parting blow. Jithu Damodar's frames are beautiful and the settings are fabulous."

"M.Jayachandran's songs including the remix are soothing. Gopi Sundar's BGM is keeping in with the pace of the movie. 'The Dolphins' may be a movie that is formulaic for most parts but with a surprising and enlivening end it may leave a good feeling in the mind," added the report.

Meanwhile, Film Beat is of the view that "Suresh Gopi shines as Panayamuttam Sura, with his extra-ordinary acting skills; especially in the climax scenes. But the Trivandrum slang used by the actor sounds artificial at some points.

"Kalpana, who played Sura's wife Kochuvava, is the star of the movie. The actress makes the audience awestruck with her exuberance in comic scenes and under acting in emotional scenes.

"Anoop Menon's character Nandan is an extension of his earlier characters. The actor is fine in his repetitive role; but definitely need to improve his acting skills and should develop his own acting style. Meghna Raj looks completely convincing in her role. Another actor who deserves a special applause is Nishanth Sagar, who mesmerizes audience with his impeccable comic timing. Rest of the cast also did complete justice to their roles," the website added.

Another website, Indiaglitz, wrote: "The movie has a serving of no-holds-barred adult humour .A special note must be made of these witty one-liners/dialogue, which is a replica of exactly how many youth converse these days. The screenplay which mishmashes different happenings with the life of Sura, are cleverly plotted, which keeps you engaged till the end.

"Add to that the appealing twist in tale in the climax which give it a life as a feel good entertainer, 'Dolphin bar' must feel safe in a already crowded market. "Dolphins' is a film which leaves you with a happy feeling. It is worth a watch, at least for naughty jokes, outrageous lines and good execution."

'Ormayundo Ee Mugham' Review: A Breezy Romantic Movie Starring Vineeth Sreenivasan, Namitha Pramod

Director Anvar Sadik has made an impressive debut with his urban romantic musical movie "Ormayundo Ee Mugham". The a breezy entertainer has Vineeth Sreenivasan, Namitha Pramod, Aju Varghese and Sou in the lead. Though the story is a familiar tale of romance and emotions, its technical excellence stands out.

The story of "Ormayundo Ee Mugham" revolves around Gautham (Vineeth) who lives with his family, including his mother (Rohini), grandmother (Lakshmi) and his sister. His mother took over the family business after the death of his father. However, Gautham is not interested to run their business. 

His destiny takes control of his life when he meets Nithya (Namitha) who is a sand artist. He falls in love with her without knowing her past. Nithya who lives with her sister Nitu (Sou) is suffering from memory loss after a major accident. The rest of the film talks about how Gautham manages to find a place in her heart and the consequent changes Nithya brings to his life and attitude.

"Ormayundo Ee Mugham" does not have a highly thoughtful storyline, but the director has managed to present the story in a pleasing manner. The film is in fact a visual treat, which keeps you engaged with its beautiful frames. The film does not have high emotional or dramatic sequences, instead it is a feel good movie with some good performances.

The other most noticeable aspect of the movie is Shaan Rahman's music. The background score and the songs are well composed, which suits the storyline of this urban love story. The director has placed each song at the right situation and will immerse the audience with its soothness.

Coming to the script of the movie, Anvar hasn't tried too much of gimmicks with the dialogues. One thing that can be noticed is that the director has made an effort to avoid any cheesy romantic dialogues, which could have easily spoiled the momentum of the narration. The basic storyline of the movie is feeble and do not offer much for the director to explore its possibilities as an entertainer.

Each character has contributed well to the storyline of the film. Vineeth has proved again that he is a multi talented personality with his performance. Namitha has given out yet another impressive performance. One thing that is missing strongly for them would be the chemistry between them.

Veteran actress Lakshmi has given out an effortless performance as a friendly grandmother, who is always in her own world of love stories. Rohini has brought out a fresh personality to the character of Gautham's inquisitive yet a caring mother with her performance and body language.

Aju has done his part well as Appurva, a close friend of Gautham. His presence was indeed an addition to the storyline with elements of comedy, which was otherwise missing in the storyline. Sou has also done justice to her role as Nithya's sister. Other actors like Mukesh, Muktha and Edavala Babu have also done their part well.

A special mention has to be given to the art director Suresh Kollam, costume designer Sameera Saneesh and makeup artist Ronex Xavier for making each frames of the movie more romantic and beautiful.

The most noticeable aspect of the movie is its camerawork and the colour tone. The cinematography by Jithu Damodar lifts the standard of the visual experience and the lighting gives a romantic mood. The editing, which is done by Johnkutty is also impressive.

To conclude, "Ormyundo Ee Mugham" is an impressive movie, which is worth a watch. You will not be disappointed if you go without much expectation.

Note: Do not expect yet another "Thattathin Marayathu".

'Little Superman 3D' Review: Critics Call Vinayan's Movie a Visual Experience | Little Superman 3D Malayalam Movie Review, Rating, Talk, Hit or Flop?

The latest Malayalam 3D movie "Little Superman-3D", directed by Vinayan has opened in theatres to positive reviews.

Reviewers have appreciated the director for his efforts to bring out a visual treat and an entertainer, meant for children and adults alike.

Though the story of the movie doesn't have much freshness to offer, the film reportedly will surprise you with its graphic works.

The story of the movie revolves around 11 year old Villi Wilson (Deny), who is Wilson George (Ranjith) and Jeny Wilson's (Praveena) son. Ansiba Hassan plays the role of his sister.

Wilson is a loving father and a dedicated irrigation department officer. His sincerity towards the work has also gained him enough enemies who eventually hunt him and his family down. Villi and his pet dog escape and his uncle Alby will take care of them. With the help of his uncle, Villi gets some magical powers and become the little superman.

The rest of the film focuses on how Villi tracks down those who killed his family and takes revenge on them.

The film's graphics are reviewed as stunning and first of its kind in Malayalam cinema. The other technical aspects of the movie have also managed to impress the critics.

"Vinayan; as a director and a writer proves that his time is not over yet. He worked a lot for the movie with no veteran actors, still maintaining a good potential throughout. The screenplay and dialogues by S Ratheesh were good as the movie will entertain both children and eider ones.The 3D movie owns a graphics of international standards by using 3D Digital Videography; commonly used in Hollywood, not seen before in Malayalam. A couple of people worked for Avatar and Harry Porter series, do the graphics in international level; which gets a better effect; watching in 3D; making the audience feel stunning, most of the time" – Muyals.com

"Child artist Deni is played the role of Villi Wilson and he was the show stealer from the first to last. Another important character in this film is played by None other than Ansiba who is one of the most popular actress in kerala now after the epic film Drishyam. Her performance in Drishyam as Mohanlal's Daughter gave her a lot of fan following and handful of films both in Malayalam and Tamil . She had done character part very well in Little Superman too. Other artists of the movie includes Kakka Ravi, Baby Nayanthara, Madhu, Praveena and others and all were done justice to their roles. V.N Babu and Vinayan financed the movie under the banner of Akash films banner. S. Ratheesh penned down the dialogues for the movie .The music department is handled by Mohan Sithara and lyrics were written by Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri. The technical team was amazingly done their part and editor sunil deserves special mention for his crisp editing. "Though logic may seem a casuality, in a fantastical story it can be overlooked. There is not much of a story to tell here, it is all about revenge and some light is also thrown on some of the rotten tendencies prevailing in our society. It is as a visual treat that 'Little Superman' thrives. The 3D effects are well handled and after movies like 'Anaconda', 'Tiger', 'Dinosaur' etc. this movie is an example of how 3D effects can be smartly used. Graphics are handled with finesse and in only very few scenes that things look slightly overboard. Technically the movie is top notch and narration is very much Vinayan like. Songs are decent and actors including the child artists have put in a competent show. 'Little Superman 3D', is a colourful spectacle for the family and children" - Metromatinee
