Woohoo... PK is finally here and boy was I excited to watch this masterpiece on the big screen. After five years of sheer hard-work Rajkumar Hirani presented us with yet another cinematic brilliance, PK. 80% of the credit goes to the director for spinning this innovative concept into such an entertaining movie. 

The movie has it all, a good plot, script, depth; an out of the box film with a strong message.

Story:

Much had been debated about the film's plot. Is PK an astronaut, is he an alien or is he a con artist? What is PK movie all about? Much till the screening of the film, the plot had not been revealed, so this may come as a surprise to you, but PK is not an out and out comedy film like how it has been portrayed till date.

The film has a lot of hilarious and fun moments but the hidden social message is what PK is all about. In a way you can say the movie is a satire on God and God fearing men. But it is unlike any typical Bollywood movie based on the same concept as Hirani has ensured to provide us with utmost entertaining experience with this movie. 

The plot of the movie starts with Jaggu (Anushka Sharma), a journalism student in Bruges, Belgium. After finishing her studies, she decides to return to her hometown in India where she comes across PK (Aamir Khan), a unique and peculiar boy who is fascinated with the many things that happen in our society for he has never seen another human being in his life. His wacky dressing sense and lifestyle is a result of his philosophies, like "There is an ATM on every bridge" or "In every isolated area is a clothing store, wear whatever you like".

PK is different and as a result has several questions in his mind which happen to intrigue Jaggu as well. Both of them set out on this journey to find the answers to all his questions, which forms the crux of the story. 

Now to know what roles Sushant Singh Rajput, Sanjay Dutt, Boman Irani and Saurabh Shukla play and to know what relation they have with "Namuna or Sample", as Jaggu lovingly calls PK, you have to go watch the movie buddy! 

Performances:

I know I am just stating the obvious but Aamir Khan does steal the show with his tube-light eyes and saucer ears, his funny Bhojpuri accent and his weird character that stands out in the film. There are truly no words to describe his performance and like his daughter and Sachin Tendulkar said, this is his best performance till date. 

Anushka Sharma too has essayed her charismatic but cute journalist role well. Her love chemistry with Sushant and friendly chemistry with Aamir has been balanced really well.

Boman has a short and sweet role which he has done justice too, even Sanjay Dutt's guest appearance is worth the watch but we don't approve of Sushant's short role in the movie and yearn for the opportunity to see him more. 

Technical Aspects: 

The story-line of the movie is captivating and there is not a dull moment in the span of 2 hours and 33 minutes. Hirani sneaks upon on you through plenty surprising moments. 

The music has been composed by Shantanu Moitra, Ajay-Atul, Ankit Tiwari and Ram Sampath, who have all done a brilliant job with the songs, they stay on your mind and are in perfect sync with the story-line. 

The dialogues by Abhijaat Joshi and Rajkumar Hirani are funny and entertaining too. The crisp narration keeps us engrossed in the movie. All in all there is not much to complain about but a whole lot of aspects to praise.

Verdict: 

PK movie is all that you anticipated, a paisa-vasool entertaining movie that will enthrall you for sure. PK is a must and should theater watch, so book you tickets soon and catch the movie on the big screen.

Sometimes it looks like we have gone back to the era when Ajay Devgn just stepped into the industry while his action created a mass appeal. And now when we have him here, there doesn’t seem too much of difference however, this time we aren’t influenced in that way.

Director Prabhudeva has his style of directing action movies ever since Wanted and here too he maintains it with Action Jackson. He doesn’t rely much on the technicalities of picturisation and shows least sympathy to the story which needed lots of improvement.

The movie opens with Rishi (Ajay Devgn) leading a simple life working in a hotel and alongside he does a social service by helping people. He takes a leave from his work and comes to Mumbai. There he has a pal (Kunaal Roy Kapur) who has no work except to get slapped by any second person. Rishi’s another side is shown here as he plays a smart goon who beats up the baddies for some money. Sooner his route is crossed by a girl (Sonakshi Sinha) who is struggling with her misfortune. But as soon as she meets Rishi, good things happen. She follows him considering him as her lucky mascot. Unsurprisingly, the two fall in love with eachother and decides to marry.

But amidst all this, Rishi is followed by the Mumbai Police and an international criminal. What’s the mystery behind all this? Is there more to Rishi’s goon occupation? To solve this puzzle watch out for this film however, you won’t be fascinated by it.

There is couple of mysteries and surprises which is opened layer by layer, one by one. They work for a moment but don’t leave a desirable impact. More because the movie is presented in a format we saw in the 80’s when ‘Lion and Mona’ were entertaining.

But after so many years, it’s hard to digest such sort of treatment to the villains of the present era. A bald-headed Don with one devilish eye and his sister (Manasvi Mamgai) with a cat-like haunting background score is the most funniest of sorts one could think for the male villain and the vamp.

The romance between and Ajay and Sonakshi is something with which we have crossed two years watching in Rowdy Rathore and R..Rajkumar.  The simple reason being is the actress and her style which are common and unfortunately annoyingly repetitive.

The movie however is supported by few action and intense scenes one of which include Yami Gautam being beaten up by the goons watching which one could easily and instantly recall Aamir Khan starrer ‘Ghajini’ where Asin is brutally manhandled.

Such scene leaves us with a sense of rage and sorrow. Moreover, the action department is something which provides us relief but in fewer occasion. There are lots of blood sheds, slaughtering with the swords particularly during the post and pre interval minutes. But by the time the movie ends, the quality of these action sequences lowers and hardly are we thrilled by them.

Had it not been Ajay Devgn, those combative scenes would have faded. If you are entering into theatres keep one thing in mind. It’s Ajay Devgn and just Devgn.

Sonakshi Sinha is repetitive but that’s what the Prabhudeva’s stories have always demanded from her. Yami Gautam plays Ajay’s muse efficiently however, there isn’t much scope for her.

Kunaal Roy Kapur as Ajay’s best friend is good. There is always one in Deva’s flick who is there to give a comic relief and Kunaal plays that part well.

Manasvi Mamgai has caliber to perform and with her debut act she shows it but mostly is turned down by her bad characterization.

Music by Himesh Reshamiya is good but the songs only interrupt the flow of the movie while none of them is remembered.

I’ll go with two and a half stars for Action Jackson. Watch it only if you are a die hard Ajay Devgn fan.

"Bhopal: A Prayer For Rain" is a historical drama based on real-life Bhopal disaster that wrecked the city on 2 December 1984.

The movie, directed by Ravi Kumar, was released in the US on 7 November and has received positive reviews from critics. 

The film features American actors Martin Sheen, Mischa Barton, Kal Penn, and Bollywood actors Rajpal Yadav, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Manoj Joshi and Fagun Thakrar in pivotal roles.

The film will hit screens worldwide on 5 December.

 Frank Scheck of The Hollywood Reporter said that the film has showed the world's largest industrial disaster with well-staged, suitably horrifying visuals.

"Starring Martin Sheen as Union Carbide executive Warren Anderson, 'Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain' never quite summons the necessary dramatic urgency, but it well conveys the conditions that precipitated event and the permissiveness accorded to multi-national corporations that will no doubt result in future such occurrences," Scheck said.

Surabhi Redkar of Koimoi.com said that it's a must watch film. "The fact that the director does not shy away from showing India's downside at the same time pointing out the American arrogance in dealing with this shameful incident," Redkar said.

Martin Tsai of Los Angeles Times said that the film is an effective cautionary tale.

"Filmmaking outside the Bollywood system, Kumar depends on Hollywood actors to generate interest here. He pulls off the mammoth, apocalyptic scenes of the disaster, which are devastating. Although the real-life events took place three decades ago, the cautionary tale could not be more relevant," Tsai added.

Frank Lovece of Film Journal in his review said that "Anyone expecting the thriller intensity of The China Syndrome will be disappointed, since most of its story remains at messy ground level with slum-dweller Dilip (comedian Rajpal Yadav), whom the film doesn't appear to name until 36 minutes in."

Rohan Achrekar is a crime reporter with the daily who is nursing a broken heart. Estranged girlfriend Priya has stopped responding to him. He needs to move on and to initiate that he takes a home in the woods. Maya, the daughter of the landlord has an air of mystery to herself. She is positively smitten by him and can’t get enough of him. Amidst all this, after a drunken night the two have an accident where Nancy is killed. Nancy is the younger sister of Priya. Maya and Rohan shush up on it and run away from the spot. Story leads to a series of mishaps and murders and Maya’s obsession for Rohan keeps growing.

Is jealousy leading her to murder those close to Rohan or is it all a botched up plan of Rohan and Priya to resolve permanently some old sibling rivalries?

Zid Review: Script Analysis

I am someone who has fed on Jeffery Archer novels and thrillers are something that is an overdone genre. If your brains haven’t depleted from watching all the crassy films, you’ll know what line of thought is headed where in this film. Rohan aka Ronnie is a crime reporter who is getting over a breakup. He moves to a desolate home in the woods which is owned by Maya along with his dog Bobby. It’s not long before, Maya begins obsessing about Rohan or as they say in psychoman’s world ‘falls in love’.

Obsession in love in Bollywood can fetch better examples. From Darr to Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya, they were all better made films about the same theme, simmering with better intensity, had a more powerful drama. But Zid lacks that novelty and hence it comes up with nothing interesting. Initially, Maya seems like a ghost but that track too fizzles out soon after. Ofcourse, giving a thriller paranormal angle harms its story but Zid could have had a better culmination in that hazy angle.

The love story between Rohan and Maya seems a figment of his imagination and for the girl’s obsession to be that intense, the attraction from her side wasn’t unleashed enough. The climax or anticlimactic ending too was something anyone sensible would have playing in their mind. I wish the script writers had a better reading stock so that their film wouldn’t be this narrow in its thinking.

Zid Review: Star Performances

Manara is radiant to look at. Resembling Parineeti Chopra a lot in many ways, the actress misses the enthusiasm and expertise of her sisters. She needs a good deal more of experience before she attains the same.

Karanvir is quite competent in comparison. Though his acting too can do with some polishing, the actor has done a decent job.

Shradha Das in her minuscule role was good and shares quite a sparkling chemistry with Karan even if it hardly has any screen space.

Mohan Kapoor is a veteran and though barely used he was great.

Zid Review: Direction, Editing and Screenplay

Vivek Agnihotri had found a fan in me with Buddha In A Traffic Jam but the filmmaker’s stark disparities in the standard of films shock me. He is on extremes. Either he is bloody brilliant or when he is bad or mediocre, he is way below his caliber. I trust him to make a better film, but Zid was plain dumb. I understand the story isn’t any genius but the director often structures the film such that it can run chills down your spine. The first point of put off is its depressing setting. Gloomy and raining; I stop to wonder does these stereotypes come with thrillers. The film is devoid of light and colors. The screenplay isn’t fast enough for a thriller and the build up is more irritating than enticing. Once the climax was done, I bought the story giving it the benefit of being just another stereotypical thriller but the anticlimax left me so disappointed. It was anything but extraordinary, rather it left too many loose ends untied in the end. The music wasn’t up to my taste and the film’s end made me thank my stars for having the strength enough to survive it.

Zid Review: The Last Word

Zid is not cringe worthy, just plain boring. Selling itself in the garb of a few explicit shots, the film’s fabric did not back itself in a solid enough story. It doesn’t have anything exemplary about it, not its acting, story or the chemistry between its lead pair. The worst thing about Zid was its climax that was downright silly. It’s almost like a bunch of intelligent people thought of doing a crash course in making a silly film and Zid was made. I am going with a very kind Rating of 1 star.

While most people try and better their work as days pass by, director Rensil D'Silva must be among those few, who made an attempt to undo the right he did while penning the screenplay of cult film "Rang De Basanti".

A vigilante group comprising of five members – Nikhil (Emraan Hashmi), Maya (Kangana Ranaut), Abhay (Randeep Hooda), Goti (Neil Bhoopalam) and Kalim (Angad Bedi) – set out to right the wrong in their own way. Fed up with the system, the law benders decide to punish offenders by kidnapping and putting them through gruelling tasks. While at it, one of the groupies video-tapes every episode and releases for the news channels to flash them.

Predictable and contrived, the plot never raises the bar, constantly reminding one of Aamir Khan and his gang's many shenanigans in "RDB". The only exception here is its loosely executed narrative with very little or no thrill. The story comes with a good intention, but loses itself to unnecessary plot devices and some over-the-top melodrama.

The dialogues, by Milap Zaveri, meant to well up strong emotions, end up poking the funny bone. In which world "wise words" such as these - "Aasuon se sirf whisky dilute hoti hai" - are supposed to give a dejected man strength to pick himself and walk the path again?

Hashmi, as the undercover cop entrusted with the job of catching the on-the-run crusaders by ACP Ashok Kale (Sanjay Dutt) does okay. But, the audience has seen him flaunt the too-cool-for-school attitude far too many times to revel in what he delivers in this one. Ranaut shines as med intern, but has very little to offer to the script, whereas Hooda as a journalist is believable. Bhoopalam and Bedi's computer engineer and mechanic lend good support.

What could have been a welcome change from the potboilers Bollywood has been churning this year, "Ungli" disappoints with its fractured storyline. And what's a Hashmi film without a kiss. As inappropriate as this may read, the lead guy nuzzling up to his girlfriend against a tree is probably the only high point of the 115-minute-long crime comedy.

Detailed Analysis:

Saif Ali Khan might misfire in films like 'Agent Vinod' and 'Bullett Raja' but he shines every time in a rom - com like 'Cocktail', 'Love Aaj Kal', 'Kal Ho Na Ho' and 'Dil Chahta Hai'. Now he is back once again with one such film under his own home banner.

Film has interesting plot though it seems heavily inspired from Hollywood. Yudi Jaitley (Saif Ali Khan) is an idle man and has penned one bestseller book five and half years back. But since then he is simply wasting his time with girls, break ups and partying. Now he is broke and another writer Aanchal (Illeana) has replaced him. So now he is struggling earn money so his agent arranges a meeting with Bollywood superstar Armaan (Govinda). Armaan asks him to write romedy and at the same time Yudi is falling for Aanchal. How finally Yudi writes his script and how his real life and script find happy ending form the rest of the story.

Performance wise Saif Ali Khan maintains his impeccable record in such light hearted romantic flicks. He plays dumb commitment phobic lover with all perfection. And yes he is too good as Yogi. Kalki is good as possessive love interest and Kareena Kapoor Khan shines in small brief appearance in first scene fo the film. Illeana is good but she fails to match up energy levels require for such character. Preity Zinta and Ranveer Shrenoy are decent.

Film has some real boring songs and they are plenty in numbers. Editing is top notch and cinematography is breathtaking. Background score is good and screenplay is average  as film slows down in 2nd half. Story has nothing new to offer but dialogues are hilarious. Art department and costume department are very good.

Director Raj & D.K. had given some interesting parts in past too and this time again they succeed with different treatment and fresh approach.

Film will release tomorrow and will get 1800 - 2000 screens which will be apt for such film. Film has good chances at box office as there is no major competition and it has good positive feel good content. Multiplexes can take this film to good numbers.

Go for this one for some serious amount of laughter!

The plot of Kill Dil appears to be an age-old one, it is the presentation of the movie which makes it stand out and entertaining. Ranveer Singh looks adorable in the new avatar and looks while, Parineeti also looked gorgeous. Ali Zafar did all justice to his role and complemented Ranveer well all through the film. Govinda has nothing to prove as an actor and this time as a villain, the senior actor looks impressive. Kill Dil has created great buzz courtesy its music and promising trailers. From the trailers, “Kill Dil” promises to be an all-round Bollywood entertainer with action, romance, dance and drama. Finally wait over for kill dil fans, the songs did not impress audience much, but they are expecting more from the film story line, actions and dialogues.

The dialogue promos of the film created good buzz and are enough to make the film look promising. With the solo release audience definitely go for kill dil during weekend. How much audience liked this movie it will be cleared through its opening day collection or future days occupancy report.

Ranveer, though genuine in parts, is left pumping so much energy into Dev that you tire by merely watching him move. And, that's unfortunate considering he's talented. His "veg/non-veg jokes" that lead him to a world of LOLs and ROFLs is one of rare, genuine fun. Zafar is unable to step out and own Tutu, and instead invests in the physicality to lend some authenticity to the character. He keeps his hair long, wears cool shades, and rides the stunning Bullet, but forgets to work on his voice modulation or his expressions. Govinda, despite playing the menacing goon, is unable to hide his dancing shoes. Whether he's happy or hopping mad, he prefers to dance and kill his stress. Parineeti Chopra joins the guy gang with a shocking wardrobe, and flutters her lush eyelashes to create a world of reform and goodwill. It's so exaggerated that we cringe at how she reduces her act into one of ridicule. She even attempts to sizzle through a few songs but fails.

Between Govinda and Ali Zafar, I couldn’t quite decide who was more bored. They looked disinterested like a Siddharth Mallya in an Asaram satsang. Ranveer Singh is endearing. He has worked very hard for the film. It took seven years for Shaad Ali to come back to direction after Jhoom Barabar Jhoom. I wish the sabbatical had lasted a little longer though.
